Let's talk about thread count. Did you know higher does not mean better? And that often it can mean poor quality cotton was used to make the sheets?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Think about it this way. There's only so many threads you can fit into a square inch. It usually tops out at about 400. So how do you get counts higher than this? There are a couple of ways.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - Super fine threads. It makes for beautiful, very light sheets, and they cost. A lot!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - Extra 'picks', where several threads are used in place of one and inserted into the weave. Doesn't do much for comfort, but it does make the numbers higher :)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - Or, what many manufacturers do - spin several poor quality threads together into one, (which is necessary because they're weaker) and then count each thread as though it's separate. Voila - 1000 thread count sheets. Coarser, heavier, denser and less breathable.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Needless to say, we don't do that. And we don't double count our threads. Our percale is single pick, single ply and at 270 threads per square inch (about 340 per 10cm sq in Australian measurements), it's right in the sweet spot for the perfect balance of comfort, strength and breathability
