Whom: Mariposa & Bastille
Where: Ivermere Academy
Mariposa had already claimed one of the front rows in the auditorium before Bastille even got there. There were papers spread across three seats and post its fluttering everywhere. Spring Recital song list. Costume notes. A half-finished running order that already had arrows and circles scribbled around it. Her coffee sat dangerously close to the edge of the armrest, testing how spill proof her thermos really was. She looked up the moment she heard the doors open.
“Okay,” she said immediately, pointing a pencil at him like this was already a meeting whether he was ready or not. “Before you say anything, I just want you to know the second graders are fighting us on keeping the rainbow scarves. But I think I have won the fight.” She shifted sideways in her seat and nudged the papers next to her so he had space.
“I also think we need to talk about the finale,” she added, lowering her voice slightly like the empty auditorium might be listening. “I'm worried if we end the recital with the chorus and the dance students together again, it’s going to feel like we repeated ourselves.”
