Today my gym was the waves wand now I’m getting a little work done! I am begining to understand why surfing is so awesome! No wonder why people just surf all day 😜 I recently came across quite a hard time and it had to do with me not sleeping enough. I thought that if I outworked everybody then I would get to succeed in what ever task I was doing faster. This led me to think that if I had 24 hour days I could literally get done in 6 months what other people got done in one year But boy was I wrong! partially wrong! I got hit in the head (figuratively) and got hit with a lesson that was painful and I will leave for another chapter. 🧐 But it lead me to realize that 24 hour hours days, although you can pull them off! Do not set up the brain for the optimal performance. So then what? I went on a quest to trying to understand how to get the most out of my days, meaning how to add more richness to the hours in the day instead of adding more hours to the day. This is when I came across the neuroscience of peak performance. The best example of this is extreme sports athletes which have exponentially increased the limits of human capacity. For example the biggest jump on a snowboard is now 57 meters. We used to think this was imposible. The state in which these athletes are, has a technical term called flow. Flow has 4 stages; the struggle, the release, the flow and the recovery. And each on of these is characterized with a specific brain wave and with a specific cocktail of super potent neurotransmitters!! Because there is so many neurotransmitters at one time; that is cortisol, norepinephrine, nitric oxide, dopamine, endorphins, amantadine, seretonin and oxytocin it creates an immense desire to repeat the activity. And it turns out this release has major implications in our bodies. The crazy thing is: studies show that productivity goes through the roof when in flow. McKinsey & Company reported approximately 500 % increase in Executives productivity, Harvard reported heightened creativity after a flow State even three days after the event, DARPA reported a 490% faster skill acquisition to Advanced Brain Monitoring.
