Oh Canada
My padre went on his first fishing trip to Thunderbird Resort with Grandpa when he was thirteen or fourteen-ish, I believe. At a minimum, Thunderbird has been a part of my family history for forty-something years. While not a guaranteed annual occurrence, we've never gone too long between Thunderbird trips. In recent years... said trips have fallen over Memorial Day weekend.
A few hours north of Loyal, Wisconsin (my hometown) lies Duluth, Minnesota. From Duluth, it's a couple hours up the north shore of Lake Superior to the Canadian border. A few hours north of the border you'll find Thunder Bay, Ontario, and an hour or so northwest of Thunder Bay sits Thunderbird Resort. All told, it's an 8+ hour drive.
Worth it.
That far north- and after the winter the midwest just had- I was expecting colder temperatures, patches of snow on the ground, probably even some white walkers- but the weather was hotter in Canada than anything I'd seen in southwest Colorado this spring. Probably climate shift or something.
A Thunderbird Resort trip is about more than just fishing. It's a chance for us men to get some space between us and our wives (sorry, sweetheart), clear our heads amongst the pines, and neglect our personal hygiene. Mission accomplished on all accounts. I'd told Gracie that I wouldn't bring the new camera out on the boat... but... but... I forgot. It survived the trip, you'll be happy to know.
Until next time,
-Ian

RD & Kriska Engagement
This one was epic due to the fact that the couple are one of my closest friends and one of the most awaited couple from our "barkada" to get married. I became a witness of their romantic journey of friends to lovers to haters and back to being lovers. And now, they got married (February 8, 2014) and of course did it with style.
We did their engagement in Thunderbird Resort, Poro Point, La Union. A Santorini inspired venue 6 hours away from the city. The shoot went as smoothly as expected. No hassles, mostly fun and good times.
Along side the view and fresh air, the couple prepared props they would enjoy while shooting like sky lanterns, colored pens and glass cutouts. They even prepared their names in cutout cardboard boxes. All prepped up, we shot on location for 2 days. We didn't want to rush things! We wanted it to be more like a vacation and less of everything else. And so we did. We even added 2 more days of fun and relaxation after the shoot to go to San Juan, La Union for a quick surf. Afterwards, we went up to Baguio City to stroll and practically waste more time just so we can enjoy the time we have away from the city.

most likely the best 2 days of my life. or maybe not. :D
Thunderbird Resort - Poro Point 2009
Every year we were invited by Engr. Winnie Gob to join their department outing. We're their adopted department! In 2007 we went to Blue Coral Resort in Batangas, 2008 - Montemar Beach Resort in Bataan. And this year it was at Thunderbird resort - Poro Point in San Fernando La Union. It was an exhausting trip in think we spent almost a day travelling from Cainta to La Union and viceversa. (3 times pa kme naligaw, hahaha!) But it was fun! When we arrived at Thunderbird it was drizzling... but we still manage to take a dip! It was a great place... especially if you really want to relax... Our buffet meals were served at Olives... And spent the night at the Santorini Lounge where they have acoustic bands playing there (had 1 round of drinks). There was a scheduled Saturday show there by Rey Valera, Hajji Alejandro and other well-known senior artists.. and we're leaving that day... fortunately when we went down at the lobby (to check out) we saw them and we're able to have snapshots with them! Went home almost 10pm... really tired but i still managed to upload the pictures in my laptop.
