The heavy, breath-catching fear that had torn through Wanda’s entire body the second she had first laid eyes upon a blood-stained Yelena was just now beginning to calm. She’d instantly thought the worst, ready to tear apart whatever unfortunate soul had laid hands upon the widow.

She had worked in silence mostly, peeling off the blood soaked clothing from Yelena; anxiety high as she looked for signs of any kind of injury whilst mumbling the odd cuss word in her home tongue. Of course, Yelena would make light of the situation; the former assassin seemed to live for the thrill of danger. It was the unexpected touch that had brought Wanda’s worried touch to a halt, her gaze lifting in slow motion like to meet the blonde’s. As innocent and simple as the touch may have been on Yelena’s part, it had stopped Wanda’s heart for a split second. Goosebumps instantly rose on her skin, despite it feeling like it was suddenly on fire. “I couldn’t bear it if something happened to you…” there was a soft, vulnerability in her voice. Wanda had already lost so much, she wouldn’t survive losing her too. Placing a touch on top of Yelena’s hand, the tips of her fingers lightly traced along her knuckles in a soothing motion. “Promise you’re okay..?”

"What did you expect?" Natasha asks as she opens the door leading into her apartment. "I'm always traveling for work; no time to decorate." Dropping her coat and bag onto the bench beside the door, she surveys the apartment through her sister's eyes. A matchbox of a kitchen, a sofa, a TV, a rug, and a small hallway leading to the bedroom and bathroom. The only sign of personality in the room was the cat bed next to the food and water dishes. Sure, it's sparse, but it's not bad. "Put your things down anywhere. You want a glass of wine? I do have wine."

The diner looked like it had been forgotten. One of those places that still had checkered floors and red vinyl booths that stuck to your jeans if you sat too long. The neon sign outside buzzed, casting a tired pink glow over the cracked asphalt.

Sam had parked the truck out by the edge of the lot, half-hidden beneath the failing glow of the sign. The quiet stretched too long between the hum of passing semis. It wasn’t the kind of spot he’d usually stop in, but something about being off the grid for a minute felt like a relief. Too many eyes on him lately. Too many headlines.

He ordered a black coffee out of reflex before he caught sight of her through the window before she even opened the door. Sam huffed out a quiet laugh to himself and leaned back in the booth, voice low when she stepped inside.

❝You sure know how to pick a place, Belova.❞ He said, voice low, teasing but edged with curiosity as his brow lifted. ❝Or does this place secretly have the best pie?❞

“What? No, I’m not — jealous.” A deep scoff fell from her throat as her brow scrunched with offense. Jealous. Her? “Cмешной!” It was a ridiculous notion, obviously. What did she have to be jealous of, with her fitted suit and her slicked back hair, leaning against a lone wall where she could feel invisible in the ballroom of the gala. A city gala, where someone thought it would be a brilliant idea to invite all of the Avengers teams. “Who would I even be jealous of.” Yelena shrugged, desperately trying to be nonchalant about the one particular Avenger her eyes had been trained on for most of the night, going unnoticed by most — accept her teammate, apparently. “What are you doing here anyway, Bucky? Do you not have someone else to bother?”

"You know i'm old..... Not stupid." Bucky commented before taking a sip from his champagne glass. He had already had to many of these but it wasn't like he was going to get drunk from it. "Well raiding the bar was getting boring and i was getting accused of having a drinking problem, so it was no fun." He shrugged his shoulders a bit. These events was so unbelivably comfortable and with everyone here? You could cut the tension in the air with a knife. "Also you are staring daggers at the poor guy talking to Kate." He chuckled, raising an eyebrow back at her. "Tell me now...."

The drop had surprised Johnny as much as, if not more than, it had surprised Yelena. One second, he was by her side, pounding down another threat. The next? He couldn’t breathe. An icy feeling like a wet blanket shrouded him in sudden stillness, his flames snuffed out in an instant. He gasped for air just as his body started to drop…and fall.

By the time he hit the ground, his consciousness had already slipped, so at least he hadn’t had to feel the rough bounce of his body hitting pavement. He’s bleeding, bruised, and probably broken a couple of ribs from how far he had fallen, but at least the fight is over. …Right?

There’s a still blanket of dark quiet over him for what feels like forever. Until, suddenly, all at once he wakes. Her voice echoes over him, calling his name as she grabs onto him. His eyes snap open. A gasp for air, then he rolls onto his side, choking and sputtering, spitting water from his lungs… A tight fist slams into the ground, then his own chest as he coughs and does his best to catch his breath. As soon as he hits his chest, though, he wishes he hadn’t.

“Ah..!” The sharp pain of bruises and broken bones beneath his suit is enough to make him yelp, a shudder running down his spine. What the hell was that?! What the hell just happened..? There’s nothing, no one left to knock out of the sky, so…? He can’t think straight enough to reason through it, his vision still blurring as he blinks and swivels his head around to frantically watch the sky in a panic. A hitched breath, his eyes eventually managing to lock onto Yelena…but he’s already panting, gasping for air, his body shivering, desperate and afraid and more vulnerable than he’s ever been in front of her before.

“I- I—! That…I…Um…Lena..?”

Gone. For good. On one hand Natasha’s able to count the times she can remember where it could’ve been an embrace, a touch, cheeky grin, their whistle call as their last, and countless are the ones she took for granted, haunted during those long, agonizing five years after Thanos’ Snap.

If she hadn’t had Steve there to be her rock steady against the overwhelming undercurrent called grief, Natasha might’ve ended up right by Clint’s side, partaking in the same vigilante helm, buried in their mutually shared bottomless pit of sorrow.

‘ I was just here yesterday. ’ That’s right… for Yelena, it’d been five years gone in the blink of an eye. Time passing vastly different for the two of them, and Natasha now five years older whereas Yelena remained as she was. ‘ You are… you were… ’ Natasha’s feels that knot tangle in her throat, forcing a reassuring smile to appear bright as the sun, whatever quip she might’ve had for technically dying and being brought back to life by magic she doesn’t understand is lost the second Yelena hugs her instead.

Natasha can’t help but cling unabashedly to Yelena’s smaller frame, refusing to let go. “ No. I am here. ” She confirms in a firm whisper into blond curls, soothing them comfortingly. “ That’s all that matters. Here and now. Where we both are. Together. I’m not going anywhere… neither are you. ”
