Tiny Home World Tour - Moonwood Mill
My original idea for this was a totally trashed place that some black market types used as a front. Somewhere in what was going to be something like an 8x8 space would be a ladder leading to a basement level that would make someone do a double take at how absolutely not trashed it was. Not lavish, but definitely well-appointed.
I decided against that, so now it's a house some uni student inherited from their estranged father. The place had seen better days, but it wasn't a dump by any means. With some of the surplus from scholarships and grants, they put in a little work and made it home. Coming from the west coast to plunk down in the middle of Appalachia was not what they had in mind when they started thinking about their post-high school life, but sometimes you don't know where you're going until you get there. It's a weird place, maybe exactly what the average person would think of when they hear "Appalachia", but also very much not.
Their father has family that's still around, so they've been learning about their paternal line, though it often feels like a few pages have been skipped when the aunts, uncles, and the rest are recalling the whens and whys of things. But the whole community talks like you were already in the middle of a conversation, even if it was the first time you're meeting them. So the freshman decided to attribute the ostensibly glossed over parts to their style of communication. For now.
Anyway, at night, no matter where you are in the town, the moon looks like if you just stretched up from your rooftop you'd be able to graze your fingers across its surface no problem. And maybe it's too early to say, but the student thinks that even after they graduate, they may just stick around.
