Two best friends, inseparable since the day they met, return from their road trip on different days. One moves out of town with his sister immediately, the other locks himself inside the house as soon as he arrives. The town in question is called Haven and, staying true to its small town workings, erupts in gossip.

A decade and a half later, it's an ordinary day of tending to plants and navigating workshops for Newt. Quite ordinary, indeed, until the Garden's doorbell chimes and an unexpected guest voices his presence.

Thomas always had a knack for turning Newt's world upside down, after all.

Another Edeia NPC! Twin Edeia and their fusion representing the Idea of Rituals. Rial is the one with a closed eye and long fingers; Tial is the one with four arms. Together, they and their fusion are known as Ritual.

Ritual is responsible for the existence of ritual magic in the world of Ideation. Ritual magic is known to exist only in rumors - for reasons including the fact that ritual magic becomes very ineffective if not entirely useless when it becomes widely known, and the fact that Ritual desires for the magic to remain mysterious. Anyone can also create a ritual, but this knowledge is not widely known and anyone who discovers this cannot share this information without certain consequences.

Personality

Rial and Tial both greatly enjoy godly ceremoniousness; they consider themselves gods and conduct themselves as if they were so. A taste for dramatic presentation is shared between both of them. They consider many mundane and worldly things below them, and have an untouchable air that can easily intimidate most others. They have a strong sense of principle, though it may not align with mortal morality.

Most of the time, they prefer not to show themselves. They may appear before those who create a ritual or those who attempt one, but it is quite unlikely and up to their own whim.

The two fluidly fuse and unfuse as it is convenient; they are as much one as they are two. They often unfuse when they wish to be "in two places at once," and are usually fused when they are in proximity. Their thoughts may differ at times, but the thoughts flow freely and are deliberated in unison. The "care" they have for each other is perhaps not fully understood as a love one might have for family due to their intertwined nature. However, it is completely unimaginable and abhorrent to consider an existence without the other.

To them, mortals are short-lived but interesting things, fun to watch as they try and fail and try and succeed. Other powerful entities and Edeia are also interesting, and they treat them with a certain amount of distance and respect. They might have a stronger interest in one or another and/or be friendlier to some, but rarely do they ever get emotionally attached to any other entity; they are completely emotionally fulfilled by each other and what they do.

Story

Rial and Tial were once fairly normal if very close human siblings in the ancient ages. The idea of rituals fascinated them, enough that they both began to develop similar but arguably Ideas related to rituals - their soulbond was strong but not enough to unite them as one. Eventually, their rituals began to have effects upon the world, and they believed themselves to have been chosen for power.

They explored their abilities, the nature of themselves, the nature of magic, all in secret. Rituals had to be secret things, after all. Soon enough, they decided that they wanted to be united as one. Together, then, they could be a god of rituals. They tirelessly created an elaborate ritual to bind their souls together, and when the time came - they were successful, their minds and bodies and souls were united, and there was a pulse of immense power... and when they came to, they had Actualized, and stood as Ritual.

Abstraction

Ritual's Abstraction is a dark, vast, place, with glimmers of light from wandering flames, candles, and markings in the earth. Sometimes there may be twilight in the sky; sometimes there may be stars or a moon or something else; sometimes there may be nothing at all in the sky.

Ritual may construct buildings and other constructs as they please out of the dark "earth." These may have the consistency of polished stone, sometimes rough stone, sometimes something else.
