Just a little PSA about (my) tourettes (Yes I am diagnosed with it, but I haven't talked about it on this blog before) (also these are mainly small things, if you want more information etc I suggest you google or send me an ask, I'm glad to answer questions to the best of my ability and help spread awareness)
- I have awfull neck tics that once gave me whiplash. It's not fun or quirky. I have back problems and a stiff neck which makes my jaw lock up pretty much every weekend because I have PE on fridays, which is one of my biggest triggers.
- DO NOT TOUCH a person who is ticcing without asking them. It has come to my attention that some people try to hold back other peoples tics, that can actually be dangerous. I had a teacher come up to me and massage my neck (because I had been ticcing throughout the whole class and was obviously in pain), and she meant good, but if I ticced at the wrong time and wasn't able to surpress my tics I would've broken her fingers. Yes, tics are often That powerful.
- Surpressing tics is often not an option for people. Personally it works well for me so I can now surpress then unconsciously, but it does take a lot of energy. And even though someone are physically able to surpress their tics, doesn't mean they have to do it. Also I can surpress my tics most of the time, but not all the time, so sometimes I'll tic like crazy, and sometimes I won't tic at all.
