My Tics
[April 17, 2020]
So recently my tics have been getting worse. Some I try to suppress when in public as I hate feeling like a freak and that all eyes are on me. I often suppress them in front of people as well as I don’t want to seem weird.
I know most of the people I’m around know about some of my tics, but only the motor ones, the phonic ones are the ones I suppress. The other tics I end up doing include weird squeaking like noises, and at times will sound like a puppy whining or sound similar to I don’t even know how to relate some of the others.
What sucks about suppressing tics is it can make them worse, and when I’m alone I end up ticcing a lot. My Cockatiel, Summer, has now been trying to mimic some of my phonic tics. Awesome. I don’t know how I feel about that.
I know I shouldn’t suppress my tics, even my mother tells me to never suppress them. Tics run in our family. However, I just don’t like ticcing. It’s one thing I hate about me. What sucks is, I can’t change it and it’s something I can’t learn to get out of, it’s not a habit like smoking that you can just quit.
I’ve never smoked but I can explain the urge to tic is like the withdrawal from smoking, if you don’t do it, it can hurt in a way, and it makes you act differently. When I try not to tic, I stutter or have long pauses in what I’m saying. While when I stutter it’s in public spaces where it stresses me out, it’s often due to the fact that I’m trying to suppress my phonic tics. I stutter also in general at times so it can be difficult to tell if I’m suppressing a tic or not.
Okay, I just wanted to share that. Maybe if somebody wants give me encouragement to stop suppressing my tics and to learn to love that part of me? I hate it so much.
I also hate talking about my tics. I put a lot of courage into saying that I have tics. I haven’t been diagnosed but my father and mother have tics. They just don’t have as many as I do. Well my father HAD tics, he passed away so can’t say have anymore. Anyways, yeah.
i made a discord for people who have ticcing disorders or similar disorders that cause them to tic because id like to be able to talk to people who know what its like. message me if youd like the link!
