Chapter 2 Squatters’ Rites, a follow-up to my Oakdown short-story.
This opulent design was based upon the original Time-Lord Regalia created for the Deadly Assassin (1976) by costume designer James Acheson.
“This particular childie soon pushed the extreme leniency afforded to the House to its limits, purposefully and more importantly publicly replacing vast swathes of their biology with inferior technological substitutes. The blatantly ritualistic nature of these “surgeries” as the agent termed them, was hard to miss, reaching crisis point when they removed their occipital lobe, installing it within an independent bio-mec shell that acted as their watchdog-cum-familiar. The agent’s handler perceived this act as a deliberate parody of the link shared between the Great Houses and their Time-Ships and the ensuing fallout saw the agent take on a near-renegade status within the House Military. While they have never openly taken action against the Homeworld, and indeed still ostensibly challenge the enemy, their motives of late suggest someone concerned with their own power and status above all else. The last recorded sighting of the agent placing them at the heart of a coup staged within the ranks of a degenerate technosapien sect found at the edges of the so-called frontier in time. While the exact nature of their involvement with this regime change is unknown it must be assumed that they have done rather well from it...”

Quite fond of having the Corsair be a contemporary of Ulysses, Penelope Gate, and Marnal in line with Gaiman’s initial idea of having the Doctor mention that he’d asked to be the Corsair’s companion as a child. As a concept they are the closest Nu-Who has come to the EUs, particularly the prose side of things, trend of featuring figures who do the same basic thing as the Doctor without being directly inspired by the Doctor.
Historical Absences [Terminology]
On the whole individuals are unimportant, as a whole however they can be quite dangerous. The support of enough individuals can result in one person becoming history rather than simply part of it. The Minister of Justice for the Supreme Alliance of Eastern States for example, was merely one man and not even a particularly impressive one at that, but the support of the innumerable number of people it takes to make up anything grandiose enough to go by “Supreme Alliance” was enough to propagate almost unimaginable atrocities. Essentially, one person had, via connection to thousands of others, become important enough to influence their lives. Whether consciously or unconsciously, they had exerted enough will to become history.
Historical Absences are instances of this effect where the central figure has become obscured to the point that they might as well never have existed even while the impact of their actions stay. This has a peculiar effect on history, with the ambiguity echoing forwards and backwards in time to the point that they essentially don’t exist beyond those actions, this creates a symbolic space where other forces can harness their work for their own ends. The individual who carried out the Whitechapel killings between 1888 and 1891 is a prime example of this, in reality a syphilitic drunkard, the sheer impact his actions had on the surrounding culture outpaced him, creating a gap that could be harnessed by any number of beings repeatedly. [1] This has resulted in the history of those people surrounding the killings weathering away to the point that they exist only in service to it. As a result very few people have much to say about Frederick Abberline or Charles Warren beyond their involvement with the Ripper Investigation, the Victims meanwhile exist only as a gory footnote, their history snatched away in much the same way their lives were. [2]
This effect can also be incurred artificially, The Homeworld Renegade and self-styled Quantum-Assassin Berenyi, for instance, disseminated the elements of a small conspiracy with the U.S. Government to assassinate President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. This resulted in the creation of the so-called Man on the Grassy Knoll, in reality a filing-clerk with very little force of will, with the symbolic power offered from being the “real” killer of the 35th President of the United States drawing various targets into Berenyi’s sights. Ironically, she would often carry out these assassinations from the seventh floor of the Texas School Book Depository, directly above the President’s real killer.
Some of the more notable Faux-Rippers include; Charles Dodgson, Masonic Forces working on the behalf of the Royal Family, an emotional vampire, a literal vampire, a being of pure malevolence, Sherlock Holmes rendered insane by years of drug use, a delicious snack, two dwarfs in a coat and a number of Time-Travelers including at least two Homeworld Renegades and the hypothetical amalgamation of another’s darkest desires.
It should be noted that permutations of the Ripper’s victims have found their way to Faction Paradox. Operating as “The Canonical Five,” they have built a reputation out of tracking down and killing the above mentioned Faux-Rippers.
