"I meane No hurt to A flie only when he bits me then I kils the flye"
– Timothy Dexter, A Pickle For The Knowing Ones
Is there a modern equivalent to the book "A Pickle For The Knowing Ones"?
For those not in the loop the book was written by a guy named Timothy Dexter who through sheer dumb luck became one of the richest people during the revolutionary era of the US. Before he died he wrote his memoir, full of incomprehensible misspelled text and a lack of punctuation, except for at the end where there's a whole dedicated section for punctuation, because, and I quote him directly:
fouder mister printer the Nowing ones complane of my book the fust edition had no stops I put in A Nuf here and thay may peper and solt it as they plese
This man was a shitposter before there was even a word for it and I think about him often
what if timothy dexter wrote my immortal?
A Pickle for the Knowing Ones
Timothy Dexter was an American businessman who is probably best known to history for failing upward and becoming extremely wealthy through the most ludicrous and sure to fail business schemes that by sheer luck always worked out. This included selling bed warmers, wool mittens, and stray cats to the Caribbean islands. Sam O’Nella Academy has an excellent video on him.
In 1802 he wrote his memoirs which he titled A Pickle for the Knowing Ones. The book contained no punctuation, random capitalization, and he made up his own spelling. While he wrote it as his memoirs really the book was just a collection of his random thought, beliefs, and endless ranting. Here is an excerpt from his book about how he plans to build a museum...

There’s 22 pages of this nonsense. It sold well enough in New England that another edition was printed in 1805. I shit you not. You can read it for free at the Gutenberg Project.

Timothy Dexter (histoire vraie)
