It's even acknowledged in the manual as "one of the bad guy's magic spells". But did you know that you can actually get softlocked even earlier? If you save in the area just south of the forest dungeon, then avoid saving riiight up until your sister gets cursed, then die, you can actually warp back to an area that's impossible to traverse without one of her debuffed spells. If you save there, you'll never be able to get out. Spooky!
