remember how last week I said I’d redownloaded tinder, perhaps unwisely
well. I did start to have a couple decent conversations after that one unfortunate first message. some quite pleasant! but one of them actually was not only very good but also like… didn’t fizzle out? and so now I’ve been texting with this guy every day since last friday, so over a week, and it’s just… fun. he seems really nice and we have a surprising amount in common and conversation just seems to flow pretty darn well! it’s honestly been almost startling how well it’s going and how much effort he’s putting in to keep our chats going! and he’s also apparently genuinely pretty amped to meet up!
but he’s not available to do so until next weekend and let me tell you the time is draaaagging lmao. weather permitting, we’re gonna go check out some of the walking trails that are all around my neighbourhood. which I think is a cool first hangout plan! I just need the time to go faster between now and then!!
still though, I’m like… weirdly optimistic? Idk yet if this is date-y or friendly (we both had in our bios that we were looking for friends but that more than that wasn’t out of the question) but either way it seems like we get along really well, and I feel pretty good about it I think. we’ve already bonded over pokemon and talked about exploring town together (I’m from the general area but don’t know this city; he recently moved from another province for school), and tonight upon learning that I don’t know how to ride a bike he offered apparently in earnest to teach me sometime. who does that?? cute. also he’s very chill and nonjudgmental about things like me being 27 and still living with my family or me not being able to drive yet, which is… comforting. I’m very self-conscious about these things with new people lol!
Idk why I’m telling y’all this except that it’s 1:58 am and I’m thinking about it!!! pls cross your fingers for me that we get along as well irl as we do in text lol. however this shakes out a local friend would be awesome for me rn so I really want this to go well!!

A/N: This is the longest post I’ve posted I think. And this is probably one of my most responded two stories. I love you guys for reading it. I might do an epilogue, I’m not sure yet but I’ll keep you posted. Enjoy!!
Masterlist in Bio
Part One Part Two Part Three (bio)
The sounds of children giggling filled the backyard as Ben chased Asher around with El on his shoulders. Ang, your mom, and you were sitting in the lawn chairs as your dad grilled the steaks for dinner.
“He’s good with them.” Ang said, looking fondly at you. You’d told her the truth about the relationship. You’d thought about telling her the same fib but you couldn’t. She was surprisingly supportive, knowing how much your mothers been hounding you about finding someone.
You smiled. “He is. It’s cute.” You lifted your phone and took a picture, doing the same with Ben’s phone knowing he’d want one.
When you looked back up Ash was running right to you. “Auntie Y/N! Save me from Uncle Ben!” He jumped into your arms, pulling them around him tight. He’d started calling Ben ‘Uncle Ben” almost immediately and it was too cute and Ben’s face lit up. You just correct him. “I’m safe!” He giggled, his entire body was vibrating with energy as he tried to catch his breath.
Ben lifted El off his shoulders, sitting in the chair with a huff. “That’s fine buddie. I need a break.”
“Did you have fun, El?” Your mom asked, giggling softly at the red faced little one.
“Oh yes.” She let out a puff of air much like Ben, throwing her arms out and falling back into his chest.
Her relaxation didn’t last long. When your dad walked up, she excitedly reached for him.
“Dinners ready.” He said, as El erupted in a fit of giggles as he tickled her.
“Let’s eat outside!” Your mother jumped up, clapping her hands. “I’ll get the rest of the food!”
Ben stood up, your eyes tried, but failed, to not look at the sliver of skin that showed when he stretched. “I’ll help.” He kissed your head as he ran around the back of your chair.
“Me too!” Asher jumped from your arms and ran toward the door.
“Oo! Mom! Grab some wine.” You laughed, moving to help lift the umbrella over the table.
Dinner was going good. Funny stories were shared at the expense of yourself, and Ben was eating it up. Eventually the second bottle of wine went around, Angie, being a responsible adult declined anymore than half a glass because she was driving, and you were slowly drinking your second.
“Ben, you’re so good with the kids.” You moms cheeks were flushed from the wine as she took a sip from her third glass.
“I have tons of cousins and little ones in the family. I’m almost always the entertainment.”
“Have you two discussed children?” She casually asked.
Your eyes bugged as you choked on your wine. Ben’s hand coming up to pat and rub your back, the tips of his ears were red. Angie was laughing and your father just sighed.
“Mom.” You coughed again, your throat burning. “We’ve only been together a few months. That hasn’t even been the topic of discussion. Ever.”
She flicked her wrist at you. “Asher, you want some cousins to play with, right?”
He perked up. “Ooo! Yes!”
“Wooo!” Elliot cheered, using the back of her hand to whip at the ketchup on her face.
“See. I want some more grandbabies to spoil, and they want some cousins to play with.” She shrugged, as if this conversation wasn’t extremely awkward.
“Mom.” You sighed, dropping your face into your hands, beginning to regret the suggestion of wine.
“I’m ju-,”
You dad spoke up, changing the conversation. “So, Ben. Do you have your eyes on any new scripts?”
You gave him a thankful look, and your mom just shrugged, continuing her bickering with your sister. Ben rested his hand on your leg, giving a light squeeze. You placed your hand over his, silently thanking him, and downed the rest of your wine.
——
“Can we stay and watch a movie mommy?” Asher asked. He’d been super helpful after dinner, he brought in the plates and even helped you do the dishes. He was currently giving your sister the puppy eyes.
She checked her watch. “Sure, it’s only eight. But just one.”
“Woohoo!! Uncle Ben! Help me pick one out!” He runs around you and El on the floor and grabbed Ben’s hand, pulling him down the stairs.
Once they were down the steps Angie joined you and El. “I know this is all, uh,” she drops her voice, “pretend.” Her eyebrows raise and she continues. “But, I can tell you like him.”
You shot her a look before turning back to the puzzle, helping El turn the piece to fit. “I’ve only known him for like a week.”
She clicks her tongue. “Time has nothing to do with it honey.”
“Alright, so what. This is all just a temporary thing. When it’s over we will go our separate ways who knows if we will even speak again.”
“Y/N. Just tell him you like him.”
Your head shot up. “No way. He is, him, and I’m, well I’m nothing too special. I don’t think I could take that rejection so why even put myself in that situation?”
Before she could say anything your parents walked in. Your mother was still clearly tipsy, but your dad had cut her off after her third glass an hour ago.
“Nooooo!!” You heard Asher giggling and stomping up the stairs, Ben close behind his laugh quickly filling the living room. “Save me!!” He hid in the floor behind Angie, still laughing.
“Woah, what’s going on?” She was surprised at the sudden movements of Ash behind her.
He giggled even harder. “I punched him in the butt and now he’s trying to tickle me.”
She gasped. “Asher.”
“No, no. It’s fine I was asking for it anyway. He said he wanted the movie from the bottom and asked me to get it. Should have known it was a trick.” Ben plopped himself down on the floor, bumping into you with his shoulder.
Angie rolled her eyes, turning her attention back to the boy. “No more hitting please. What movie did you pick?”
“Yes ma’am. And How To Train Your Dragon!” He held the DVD up. He looked over at your dad, who was sitting quietly with your half awake mother. “Grandpa, can you put it on please.”
“Sure bud. Then I’m going to go get grandma in bed. Give her kisses.” He took the movie while Asher and El climbed up, attacking your mom with kisses all over.
“Oh, I love you guys. So. Much. I wish I had more tiny faces kissing me though.” She looked at you. You just huffed and rolled your eyes.
“Alright.” Your dad said, kissing both kids then pulling your mother up. “Time for bed.”
While everyone moved around, you situated yourself on the couch. Ben went and grabbed some cookies and soda for you guys and juice boxes for the kids, Ash right behind him. Angie grabbed the remote and curled herself up in recliner.
“Elliot, baby, where do you want to sit?” She asked, lifting her arm up in invitation.
El looked from her mom to you, then back and forth again before jumping at you, curling into the nook of your arm.
“Ha. Fine meany.” Ang pouted.
“Oh chill. You get all the cuddles from her it’s my turn.” Ben came back, handing you a drink while Asher sat the cookie plate on the table. “Thank you dear.”
“You’re welcome, love. I see my spots been taken.” He laughed, pointing at El before making himself comfortable beside you, with Asher wiggled between the two of you.
With in the first 15 minutes Elliot was asleep, her head resting on your chest. You laid your cheek on her head, intending to only rest your eyes for a moment, but her warmth mixed with the slight warmth from the wine lulled you to sleep.
A finger pressed into your cheek. First just a poke, then a poke and a wiggle. “Aunt Y/N. The movies over, wake uuuuuuup.” A pair of wet lips pressed into your cheek and when you finally opened your eyes, Asher was smiling at you. “Mommy says it’s time to go home.”
“Can I keep sis?” You mumbled, cradling the still sleeping El closer.
His brows pinched and he shook his head. “Uh, no silly.”
“Fine.” You sighed, carefully standing up.
Angie was already ready at the door, Elliot’s jacket and shoes in hand while Asher hugged Ben.
“Bye Uncle Ben! See you next time!”
Ben ruffled his hair. “See you next time buddie.”
You helped Angie get the kids in the car, then gave her a hug.
“He’s a keeper.” She said, hugging you tight. “You should have seen the way he was looking at you when you were sleeping. He even took a picture.” She pulled away, grabbing your cheeks in her hands. “Don’t let him slip away Y/N.”
You sighed as she kissed your forehead. “I’ll try. Drive safe.” You gave her a kiss on the cheek, then made your way back to Ben, who was standing with his arm open.
“That was a lot of fun.” He was waving at Ash as the car backed up.
You looped your arm around his back, watching them drive off. “It was. I didn’t aim to fall asleep though.”
Ben laughed, turning the two of you into the house. Even though it was just the two of you, he kept his arm around you. “It’s okay. It made for some cute pictures.” He lit up his phone, showing you the photo of you and El sleeping that was set as his lock screen.
“Oh goodness.”
“It’s cute.” He kissed the top of your head, walking toward the steps. “Wanna go to bed?”
“Yes please.”
The two of you silently got ready for bed, moving around each other effortlessly. While he took a shower you changed into your pajamas and curled into bed with your book, much like the night before.
“I’ll have to remember the name of your shampoo.” You jumped at his voice breaking the silence. Once again he was just in pajama pants, running a towel through his hair.
“Why’s that?” You asked, bookmarking your page and setting your book aside.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Smells good.” You couldn’t help but smile at him as he walked around the bed, hanging the towel up. “What?”
“Hm? Nothing.” He flopped onto the bed, propping his head up on his hand, watching you get comfy on the pillow. “What?”
“Nothing.” He rolled over, picking up his phone. His head rolled over to look at you, his voice soft. “Goodnight. Y/N.”
“Goodnight, Ben.”
You closed your eye, willing sleep to come, but after a while you opened them. Ben was sitting up a bit, his face illuminated by his phone. You traced his profile, lingering on his lips. He really was so beautiful. As if sensing your gaze his eyes drifted over and you snapped yours shut.
“Can’t sleep?” You shook your head, eyes still closed. “Me either.” You huffed and pushed your face into the pillow. Ben’s hand rested on the back of your head, softly pushing you towards him. “Here, come here.”
You let him lead you to his chest, his hand softly running over your head. A soft “hmmm” escaped you as his fingers gently scratched across your scalp.
After a few moments you broke the silence. “I’m sorry about my mom.” A slight shiver ran over him at the feeling of your breath across his skin.
“There’s no need to apologize. She’s just excited for you.”
“Yeah, but she was way out of line. I’m sorry if it made you uncomfortable.”
He splayed his fingers over your head, leaving them there. “It’s fine. I mean it.” His fingers started moving again, and the room grew silent as you watched him breath. You heard the sound of him locking his phone and he spoke again, this time his voice was softer. “You still awake?” You nodded. “Can I ask you something?”
Your heart stopped, and you held your breath a moment as your mind worked through any and every problem before you finally spoke. “Yeah.”
His breath blew against your hair as he prepared himself. “You, uh, you don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to. But, what happened with your last relationship that has kept you from starting a new one?” You couldn’t control the chuckle that erupted from your lips. Ben quickly kept talking. “Like I said, you don’t have to answer that.”
You looked up at him, his brows pinched as he gave you a worried look. “Ben, it’s fine.” You looked back down, absentmindedly tapping your fingers on his chest as you tried to think of what to say. “I didn't think this would come up, they know how I feel about it, so I didn’t mention it before. But uh. I was engaged.” You took a second to gather your thoughts. Ben’s hand moved down to lightly rub your back, silently telling you to take your time.
“We were together for almost three years. We had moved in together, planned the wedding and honeymoon. Things seemed so good. I thought we were in a good place.” You took a shake breath, the memory still fresh in your mind. “But. One day I came home early, favorite take out place in hand, ready to just spend a relaxing evening in. Only, when I opened the bedroom door he was in bed with my supposed best friend.”
“Oh my god.” Ben whispered, he wiggled a bit, pushing you up and turning the light on to looking at you. “Y/N that’s..that’s just..god.” He gently wiped his finger under your eye, collecting tears you didn’t even know had fallen.
“At the time I was a mess. I threw the food at them, followed by his engagement ring. Then, while my now ex friend cried in my bed, I packed a bag. He had the nerve to tell me it wasn’t what it looked like.” You laughed, Ben was now holding your hands his eyes never leaving your face. “What’s worse is we were only a month out from the wedding. She was supposed to be my maid of honor. And,” you shook your head, taking a deep breath to calm yourself. “I found out that they had been sleeping together for a few months. In our house.” You squeezed Ben’s hands, then removed yours to run them over your face. “Needless to say, I felt disgusting. Mom and dad came down that night and helped me pack all my stuff while he was at work. It definitely changed my outlook on myself and life.” You whipped your face again, looking to see Ben’s eyes watering a little.
He pulled you into him, wrapping you tight in his arms. “No one should ever, ever, have to go through something like that.” He kissed the top of your head.
You took the opportunity to just feel the warmth of his skin on your cheek. The way he smelled like his body wash mixed with your shampoo. Your arms wrapped around his waist. “It took awhile though, but eventually I made new friends and started to love myself. I’m in a much better place now.”
“Can I tell you something? You deserve someone who treats you like an angel and never makes you doubt yourself. Reminds you every day that they love you and gives you endless support.” He kissed your head again. You could feel the tears falling again as the impact of his words hit you. “And someday you will find that person.” You hugged him tighter, drawing in a ragged breath. “I’m sorry I upset you, love.”
“No, no.” You pulled away, wiping your face again. “I felt like I needed to explain mom. There had been lots of talked of grandchildren, but she was also extremely worried about me.”
He pushed some hair behind your ear. “Thank you for trusting me enough to share.”
“Thank you for listening.”
His thumb rubbed over your cheek. “Always.”
You let out a nervous laugh, rubbing your eyes. “Look at me, pff. I’m a mess.”
“You look fine. Here, lets get some sleep.” He opened his arm and pulled you down on the bed with him.
------
“What time do you leave tomorrow?” Ben asked, taking a bit of his breakfast burrito. Your mom was a bit hungover, so you made breakfast.
“Later in the day. If I remember correctly at six.”
Ben nodded, typing at his phone for a moment and smiling. “Just booked a ticket too. We can ride back together. Oh, do you have any plans today?”
“Not that I know of, why?”
“Would you like to go to dinner? There’s a nice little Italian place we went to for dinner one night that I think you’d like.”
You plated your omelet, looking over at him. “Won’t that cause a bit more of a stir in the press?”
“Eh. I don’t really mind. Unless you do. If so I’m perfectly fine with staying in.” He watched you take a seat.
On one hand it would be nice to get out of the house, go on a date, no not date, with Ben. On the other people would see you and him together. More articles would be posted, pictures taken. But, you were also starting to go a little stir crazy in the house. “Sure. Yeah. Lets go to dinner.”
“It’s a date.” His entire face was bright as he took another bite.
After breakfast the two of you ventured downstairs to start a movie marathon. Half way through your second movie your parents joined you, bringing along some pizza. All four of you spend most of the day down there. Lots of cuddles, laughs, and even a popcorn fight between a movie.
Ben was constantly touching you in some way. Not anything too crazy though. He’d pull your legs over his, or lay in your lap. He pulled you over to him to rest on his chest or leaned up against you holding your hand. Deep down you knew it was for show, but that didn’t mean you couldn’t enjoy the attention. His skin was soft. His hair was soft as you ran your fingers through it. He just made you feel soft.
At about six, he stood up, stretching out his long arms. “Want to get ready for dinner?”
“Sure.” You looked over at your parents, both tapping away at their phones. “Do you guys want us to pick you anything up?”
“No no. We’ve got left overs. You kids have fun.” Your mom said, patting your cheek.
You and Ben made your way to your room. The questions were flowing. “How should I dress? And do my hair? Heals?”
“Not overly fancy, wear it down, and if you want to, go for it doll.” He answered while gathering his clothes. “I’ll meet you downstairs.”
“Not overly fancy?” You muttered to yourself, opening you closet door. After flipping through a few times you settled on a flowy flower top, a pair of black jeans and boots to match. You pulled the sides of your hair back with bobby-pins and gave yourself a once over.
“There’s going to definitely be pictures taken from a far.” You said to the empty room. You walked back from the mirror checking to make sure everything looked good. You snapped a selfie, posting it to your Snapchat story and with one final breath you headed down to meet Ben.
“I can’t.” You heard Ben say, he was talking quietly but with a serious tone that made you freeze. “Joe.” Silence followed then a sigh. “I don’t think it’ll happen.”
Finally you moved the rest of the way downstairs. Ben was sitting on the couch, one hand holding his phone the other scratching at his brow. He looked really good, white shirt under a black jacket and black pants. Not overly fancy.
You stepped closer, allowing the urge to just touch him take over. When your hand grazed the back of his head he shot up. The momentary look of panic was replaced with that soft look you’d become familiar with.
“Joe, mate. I gotta go. Yes. I will.” The moment the call ended he stood up, looking you over. “You look beautiful.”
You patted his chest. “You don’t look so bad yourself. You alright?”
“Hm? Oh. Yeah. Joe was just pestering me about you. Speaking of.” He reaches for you hand, spinning you away a little before pulling you back. “Let’s send him a picture.”
“You just really love fucking with him don’t you.”
He led you to the mirror, pulling you close and smiling. “Don’t act like you don’t enjoy it, babe.”
“Maybe a little.” You laughed, just as Ben snapped the picture. But before you could see it your mom came in.
“Ohh!! You two look lovely! Let me get a picture.” She ran to the kitchen, returning with her phone held up. After a few pictures she made another request. “Love it. Ben, give her a kiss.”
You gave him a wide eyed look. “Don’t feel like you need to.” You said through a smile, hoping your mom couldn’t hear. But secretly hoping that he would kiss you.
He shrugged, raising an eyebrow slightly while pursing his lips. You raised your brows, noticing him slowly moving closer, as if giving you the opportunity to turn your head. But you didn’t. You slowly moved closer to him, watching as he smiled slightly, looking from your eyes to your lips. And then you were kissing.
His lips were soft on yours, and the taste of mint lingered from when he brushed his teeth. The hand on your back pushed you a little closer. You could feel your cheeks heating up as you’re lips moved against his. Both of you smiled into the kiss before pulling away. Your lips tingling. Your heart racing. The two of you just looked at each other, probably like goofy idiots. But you were quickly pulled back to the room by your mother.
“Too cute. Okay. You kids have fun now!” She kissed each of your cheeks then pushed you to the door.
Ben gave directions while you drove. Along the way you pointed out different places and shared stories. Like the place you had your first kiss, and the place you broke your arm falling from a tree. He listened to every story with a smile, adding some comments here and there.
“Uhhh.” Ben said, sitting up a bit. “I think you have to park at the end of the block.”
“That’s downtown for you.” You laughed, pulling into the small parking lot. “I hope it’s not too far, I’m starving.”
Ben got out and ran around the car to open your door. “Nope it’s just a few doors down.”
The two of you walked arm in arm, the slight breeze drawing you closer. When you got to the doors you gasped. “No way! This use to be a little pizza place when I was growing up. They closed when I was like fifteen. I’m glad something moved in here.”
“They have amazing food.” Ben opened the door for you, smiling as you looked around.
“Lots of birthdays here.” You were really just talking to yourself, but Ben was watching you look around with eyes wide. The red and white striped walls, the red booths, even the little pizza light shades. “They kept everything looking original. This is amazing.”
Ben lightly took your hand, leading you to a booth near the corner. “Glad this was a good choice.”
“Yes. There are so many memories here.” You smiled at him. He was looking at you so fondly that you both almost didn’t notice the waiter.
He, himself, seemed to be a little star struck when he saw Ben. “I. I’m a-Mike. I’ll be your server today.” He took a deep breath and seemed to regain himself. “What can I start you all off with to drink?”
After the shock wore off, Mike made sure the two of you had everything you needed. He brought breadsticks and checked on the two of you every few minutes.
“So, last time I had the Spaghetti Vesuvius. If you like a bit of a kick I definitely recommend it.” Ben offered, pointing at a picture of it in the menu.
“That does look good. But. I think I’m feeling the fried ravioli.” Even just saying it made your stomach growl.
After giving your orders, you couldn’t help smiling at Ben. He was eating a piece of bread, but had butter on his top lip.
“What?”
You wrapped your napkin around your finger, reached over and gently wiped his top lip. “Sorry.” You pulled back, suddenly quite embarrassed.
“Thank you.” He laughed, immediately making you feel better. “So. I’ve been meaning to ask. What do you plan to do after graduation?”
“My current five year plans end goal is to be at a PR Firm. Working with celebrities or musicians. I’m not sure who’s lest dramatic though.”
“Oi, I’m pretty undramatic thank you.”
“I’m sure you are.” You laughed as he mocked shock.
He flicked his straw wrapper at you and clicked his tongue. “Rude. Tell me more about this five year plan.”
“Well. I made it at the beginning of this year, and so far it’s going well. It’s kinda short though. Graduate, which I will be at the end of the year. Have a good job or at least an entry job. And be in a happy healthy relationship. But that one isn’t as important to me. I’m more focused on career right now.”
“I think those are good goals. It’s important to have a goal to strive for.”
You started picking at your bread, feeling a little silly, even though you had no reason to. “After all that stuff with my ex I needed something to motivate me to get my life going again.”
“Well we wouldn’t have met otherwise.” He winked, alluding to your fake background story.
Before you could think of a response, Mike arrived with your food. “Enjoy your meal. Please let me know if you need anything.”
Your first bite was unbelievable. It was perfectly crisp while still being soft and full of delicious flavor. You and Ben didn’t speak for a few moments, just enjoying the food. Finally, you broke the silence.
“So. I’ve got a question for you. If you could hop on a plane right now, where would you go?”
He nodded, finishing his bite before answering. “Somewhere warm. Maybe Fiji. The boys and I took a trip there right after wrap and spent a few days just relaxing on the beach.”
“It’s been awhile since I’ve been to the beach. That sounds like the perfect place to go.”
“Just let me know when and I’ll take you.” He smiled that crinkly eyed smile.
You pointed at him with your fork, a corner of ravioli on the prongs. “I just might hold you to that, Hardy.”
He quickly leaned forward, his lips wrapping around your fork, stealing the bite from it. “Oh my god. That is fantastic.”
“Ha. Rude.” You reached over, stealing some of his Spaghetti Vesuvius. A nice heat spread through your mouth with the spices. You closed your eyes as you savored the flavors. “Wow. Alright so next time I’m getting that.”
“I told you it was good.”
You stuck your tongue out at him, earning a playful kick. “Okay now watch it.” You kicked back. After another bite you asked another question. “So, after filming, what’s your favorite thing to do to relax?”
“Hm.” Ben spun some pasta onto his fork, taking his time. After a bite he nodded. “So, this is kinda weird. Please don’t laugh.” You gave a sharp, serious nod and Ben let out a sigh. “Alright. Being around everyone all the time during filming is awesome. But after, I just like to go home, get naked, and watch Netflix for like two days.”
You let out a choking sound, throwing your hands up in defense. “That wasn’t a laugh I swear! I just wasn’t expecting that to be the answer. But I get it. When I’m all alone I like to be naked too so.” You shrugged.
“Just have to feel the breeze between your cheeks sometimes.”
“I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”
The two of you finished eating and between bites of the shared brownie pie, you realized something. The more he laughed at your jokes, smiled at you softly, or opened up about himself; the more you couldn’t ignore the growing feeling inside. The way he gave you his undivided attention when you spoke. How soft he looked while looking at you. It all made your heart race, and your stomach feel with butterflies. All those cliché description of love from novels, you were feeling.
But even though it felt like in the recent days his touches linger a little longer, his lips press a little harder, and his eyes almost never leave you. It was definitely all in your head. You were just projecting your feelings. Tomorrow the two of you would be boarding the train and the going your separate ways. He was a movie star and you were just a small speck in his giant world.
“Y/N?” Ben’s voice was a bit loud, and when you looked up he was giving you a concerned look. “You alright, love?”
You cleared your throat, heat spreading across your ears. “Yeah, sorry I just zoned out.” You met his eyes, and he smiled softly.
“You’re fine, love. Would you take a picture for us?” He asked, motioning to a very nervous looking Mike.
You nodded, taking Mikes phone and snapping two pictures.
“Thank you so much. You two enjoy the rest of your evening.” He bowed his head and started cleaning the table.
Ben wrapped his arm around your waist lightly, leading you out the door, but giving you side looks along the way. “Are you sure you’re alright?”
“I’m fine. Just, a little stressed about getting back into the swing of school.” It wasn’t entirely a lie, but you really didn’t want to share the truth.
He pulled you a little closer, pressing his lips to your head. “You’ll do fine. Just the rest of the year and it’s off to publicly relationing the world.” His free arm swooped around the air.
You raised an eyebrow at him. “Has anyone ever told you you’re weird?”
“Quite a few people actually. But it means the most from you.”
The two of you laughed and bumped each other around the rest of the way to the car. Ben opened the door with a dramatic bow, and gently closed it once you were inside. The ride home was full of singing and so much laughing that your cheeks hurt.
When you walked in the house, your mom was snug on the couch, cup of tea in hand, watching tv.
The moment she saw you she muted the tv. “Welcome back. Did you two enjoy yourself?”
“Sure did.” You smile at Ben as you joined your mom on the couch.
“Always a good time with her.” His eyes never left you as he slipped his shoes off. “I think I’m going to shower and head to bed. Goodnight.” He gave your mom a kiss on the cheek, turning to you next. “See you soon, love.” His lips pushed slightly, letting you decide to give him a cheek or your own lips.
You pushed yourself up, softly pressing your lips to his. “I’ll be up in a little bit.”
He gave a slight nod, connecting your lips one more time then headed upstairs.
“Y/N.” Your mother's voice was quiet, almost timid. “I’d like to apologize if I’ve been a bit too much the past few days.” Her hand reached out for yours, gripping tightly. “I’m just so glad to see you so happy. Genuinely happy. That’s all I wished for while you were hurting you know.” Her gaze met yours. “For someone like Ben to come along and show you true love.”
The guilt hit you like a kick in the stomach. “Mom. I’m, I’m scared.” She might not know the truth, but your feelings weren’t a lie.
“Oh honey. I know.” She pulled you to her, gently patting your head.
Your breath was shaky as you willed yourself not to cry. “I really like him, and I’m just so worried that what happened before will happen again. I know he probably wouldn’t, but that fear is still there.”
“And it might always be. It’s hard to forget something like that happening. But, you’ll know when you find the person you trust who makes you remember how not to feel that way. I’ve seen how he looks at you. Even when you aren’t doing anything. The love that fills his eyes. Y/N, it’s evident enough that he cares deeply for you. And I can see the same look in your eyes.”
You nod. “I do care a lot for him. But I feel like my anxiety will be too much.”
“You're never too much for someone who can't get enough of you. And I can tell by his eyes that he can’t get enough of you. Just communicate.” She smooths a hand over your hair, just holding you.
After a cup of tea and some more cuddles, you told your mom goodnight. When you quietly opened your door, you could help but smile. Ben was sleeping on his stomach, face pressed into the pillow, lips slightly parted. His hair was draped across the pillow and he looked incredibly peaceful. As quiet as you could, you changed in the dark and slipped into bed.
Just as your eyes started to close, Ben’s hand snaked around your waist, pulling you closer to him. His soft breaths gently pulling you the rest of the way to sleep.
——
You woke up with Ben in your arms. His head was on your chest with an arm wrapped snuggle around you. Your hand moved to his head, gently combing through his hair which smelled like your shampoo and was incredibly soft. This was something you’d miss. These few moments before either of you knew the other was awake, just soaking in the warmth of the other.
Ben gave a soft groan before taking a deep breath. His hand moved, your stomach tightening and you froze when you felt that his hand was slightly under your shirt.
“M’sorry, love. Didn’t mean to tickle you.” His voice was scratchy with sleep and he didn’t move his hand. “Been up long?”
You started moving your hand in his hair again. “Not long. Sleep well?”
“Best sleep in a while.” He lightly rubbed his face into you.
The two of you sat in silence for a while. Your hands still in his hair and his breaths coming slow. Just when you thought he’d fallen back to sleep he spoke.
“Has our night been forever frozen on the internet yet?”
“I'm not sure. I’ll check.” You reached over for your phone, your shirt riding up more and Ben’s hand sliding slightly as you moved. After opening Instagram and going to his page you laughed. “Well some of the pictures are on Instagram.”
“Which ones?” He asked as he got up, getting his own phone and resting his head on your shoulder to look.
You covered your now cold stomach and showed him a picture of the two of you walking arm in arm. Then another from across the restaurant and the one of him and Mike. “I bet there’s more on Tumblr.” You switched apps and went to his tag.
“Anything good? I haven’t been on there in a while.”
“Oh honey, your tag is always fire.”
There were more posts, all of them freaking out over who you were and others who didn’t know Ben had a girlfriend.
“Roger actually texted me about an article. He called you beautiful.”
“I believe that’s the highest compliment I will ever receive and I will be getting it tattooed on my forehead.”
Ben laughed. “I’d pay to see that.”
You patted his chest and kissed his cheek. “Honey you can pay for it. Let’s get some food.”
Your mom was already up and cooking when you got to the kitchen. The room smelling like pancakes and bacon.
“I just realized, this is our last morning together.” She turned, a frown on her face as she handed you each a plate. “Oh, I’m already so sad about not hearing the two of you come down the steps in the morning.”
“I’m already missing my bed honestly. The one at school is awful.”
Ben smiles at you, a drop of syrup on his chin. “Not too much longer love.”
You reached around, grabbing his chin and whipping at the syrup. “You’re so messy.”
Grabbing your hand he smirked. “Good thing I have you to help keep me clean.” After kissing your hand he turned to talk to your mom, leaving you to try and calm the warm feeling in your cheeks.
The rest of the day was spent much like the day before. Spending the last few hours with your parents and Ben, listening to them laugh and get along so well. Before you could blink though it was time to leave.
Your parents drove you to the station, and walked you to the doors.
“You guys will have to try and visit again soon. It was lovely to have you here Ben.” Your mom kissed his cheek, giving him a big hug. “Keep us up to date on your movies.”
“Thank you for having me. And I will. It was lovely to meet the both of you.” He turned to shake your dad’s hand.
Your mom gave you a massive hug. “I’m so glad your happy love. Call me when you get home.”
“I will. I love you.” You kissed her cheek, moved to tell your dad the same, then hand in hand walked in with Ben.
The walk to your platform was quiet, and the two of you stayed hand in hand, even as you got on the train. He sat across from you like when you first met, his lip between his teeth while looking out the window.
Finally, the train started moving and your nerves were getting the best of you so you spoke, poking him with your toes. “Where’s your head?”
“Hm? Oh. I’m sorry. Just thinking about a role that my agent sent me.” His smile didn’t quite meet his eyes.
“Ooo. What kind of role?”
“It’s for a movie about secret agents. He didn’t tell me much, just that it's kinda like a Bond movie.”
“That sounds like fun.” He was working his lip again. “What’s wrong?”
“I just always get so in my head when the possibility of a new movie comes around. Like I work hard to learn everything I can and need for a movie but there’s always this worry that I won’t be enough.”
You reached over and grabbed his hands. “Hey, listen to me. You’re not only an amazing person, but you’re an amazing actor. If they don’t choose you, it’s their loss. But remember, there’s always another movie or show. You’ve always got my support.” You brought his hands up to your lips and kissed them, finally earning a smile.
“Thank you.”
“No. Thank you. This has been a weird week, but honestly, it’s been an amazing one. You were a very wonderful fake boo.”
“It takes two.” He laughed, finally his smile was reaching his eyes. “But, it was fun, and your family is awesome.”
The rest of the ride was spent much like the first ride. The two of you talked and showed each other funny post. You tried to enjoy the possible last few hours with Ben. Even though you were sure the two of you would still be friends no one ever knows how life will go.
When the train came to a stop you immediately felt sad. Ben grabbed your bags and the two of you made your way off and through the station.
“I, um, gotta go that way. My roommate is picking me up.” You pointed to the doors across the way.
He nodded, pointing behind him. “I have to call a cab. Let me know when you make it home?”
“Yeah. Of course. You do the same. And thanks again for everything. I owe you.” You gently took your bag from his hand, letting your fingers trace his.
“You don’t owe me anything. I had a wonderful week Y/N.” He stepped forwards, wrapping his arms around you and kissing your head.
You hugged him back, tight. “Me too. Talk soon.” You pulled away, his hands still on your arm.
“Definitely.” He gave you one last kiss on your head a turned.
With a deep breath, you yourself turned to the doors. When you checked your phone, your heart squeezed at the selfie of you and Ben you had set as your lock screen. Your mind was racing through the week. The words your sister and mom had said, the feeling deep inside that you just couldn’t ignore.
You turned, ready to find Ben, only you bumped hard into someone.
“Oof, I’m-,”
“Y/N. I can’t let you leave.” It was Ben. When you met his face his brows were pinched together as his hands went back to your arms. “I can’t let you leave without telling you something. I like you. A lot. Like honestly I might be in love with you. And I know that might sound crazy, but it’s true. The way you laugh, and smile, and say my name. It feels me with so much joy.
You’re so beautiful and smart and funny and kind. I really enjoy waking up with you. And listening to you talk about what you’re passionate about. I’m blabbering and I know you might not feel the same and that’s fine. I get it. But I couldn’t let you leave here without telling you.”
You stared at him for a moment, a smile slowly spreading across his face. “Ben. I think I might love you too.” Relief washed over his face as he smiled that beautiful wide smile. “I’ve been juggling these feeling for a few days and I was just about to come tell you the same thing.”
“Looks like I beat you to it.” He smirked.
“Shut up and kiss me.”
“You don’t have to tell me twice.” His hands cupped your face and he pulled you closer, locking your lips together.
“I’ve never been happier about swiping left on someone.” You laughed as you pulled away. “But this is definitely worth it.” And with that you kissed Ben, your no longer fake boo, again.
