Cover of the Toy Tinkers’ Tinkertoy catalog - 1929.
“Tinkertoy Tower” celebrates the simple fun that can be had with these old-tymey wooden building sticks. 😄 Ink and watercolor.
I won this Executive Tinkertoy tube at a North Star Auction along with some other toys and games two weekends ago. I thought it was contemporary because of things I've seen in stores like Executive Decision Maker dartboards and such, but I was wrong.
On the bottom of the can, it says "Toy Tinker Division of A.G. Spalding & Bros., Inc." Yes, that's the basketball brand. It turns out Spalding bought The Toy Tinkers in late 1952 and ran it until 1969. So, not so new after all. Neat stuff.
Amazing Computing November 1988
This issue’s cover promoted advanced programming techniques. The regular “Roomers” column looked ahead to Steve Jobs’s NeXT computer with the approving comment it obviously resembled the Amiga (although it mentioned “colour graphics,” something that didn’t get into the actual hardware for years) but also commented the “Apple IIgs Plus” had been delayed, doubtless connected to Apple raising Macintosh prices in a RAM chip shortage.
Gyro’s Car?
Morning of March 19, 2019. Tuesday.
Dream #: 19,083-03. Reading time: 48 sec.
In an isolated log cabin near the outer perimeter of a dense pine forest, though ambiguously near a beach where there are palm trees and the ocean beyond, and yet with sparse snow cover near the cabin, I have a car (inside the building) that needs engine repair, though the backstory does not confirm it is mine. (Still, in my dreams, I often assume a random vehicle to be mine and often summon them even without lucidity. They sometimes drive themselves to me, though they occasionally have a driver.) There is no opening for the car to leave the building, only one regular door (as for a house), though that is of no concern or focus.
Eventually, both the cabin and unique car may belong to Gyro Gearloose. The vehicle has a similar appearance as the car from the 1966 "Green Hornet" television series. There is a cylindrical Tinkertoy container that we are soon using to fix the engine. There is not much concern about various pieces of the engine (a combination of Tinkertoy pieces and a few small engine parts) strewn across the floor. Gyro seems animated (like a cartoon) though the rest of my dream's content seems realistic.

Check out my brand new subrace of troublesome tinkerers!
A subrace of gnomes that feature heavily in my campaign (much to the delight and panic of my players), Tinkertoys are gnomes with a passion for adventure; only equaled by their penchant for accidental mischief. Gifted with a wild hyperactivity and manic tinkering obsession, these lovable gnomes are often found clustered in small groups throughout cities, towns, hamlets, abandoned castles, and pretty much anywhere else there might be something worth ‘improving’. Many of their kin see them as useful builders - provided they aren’t left to their own devices. For once a Tinkertoy gets tweaking, rarely is their project ever completed as intended... Let me know what you think! It’s free, as always - though if you like it, consider dropping some spare change on it to help keep my content coming and me motivated!
