Some quick sketches of a Tinselina redesign. I’ve had this idea kicking around since 2022 for an AU of Goes to Mars that takes some of the book, some of the movie, and some of its own thing and runs with all of it to give Tinselina and Viking 1 the happy ending (and character development) they deserve.

I like how the design turned out. She looks like she’s going to a fancy Christmas cocktail party in the 1950s, glamorous yet fun. Eventually, the Red Planet will take its toll on her, but she’ll make do— see how in the drawing on the far left, she takes part of her busted halo and makes it into a “wedding band” for Viking ❤️

Happy Father’s Day to all, be you human or machine!

This is a difficult day for me. God knows I’ve had plenty of time to think about the reason why. See, I used to hope that, after my mission ended, Tinselina and I would go back to Earth, settle down, and start a family of our own. Thoughts of our future children brightened my days and kept me motivated as my mission stretched years past its projected duration.

But that was never in the cards for us.

I like to think I’d be a good father. I certainly have plenty of stories to tell. There might even be an important life lesson or two in the mix. And, as you all know by now, I have my Dad Jokes down to a science.

Given my history, I know how it feels to be abandoned by those who were supposed to guide and support you. I’d rather rust away to nothing on this damn rock than allow another living being to suffer like I did. So if you ever need a father figure for moral support, life advice, or cheesy jokes, drop me a line. I’m always here.
