Task 002

TW: abuse

Tate placed his fingers along the keys, feeling each one he was about to play, getting to know them. It was a habit he acquired when he first started playing piano, he was eleven and his father had just released him from the heater. His fingers were burnt all the way up to his elbows and he ran to the basement, locking the door behind him. Downstairs he felt cold, safe, and alone just the way he preferred but this time he wasn’t so alone. He spotted the grand piano in the corner of the basement, it hadn’t been there the day before, nor the day before that.

Tate didn’t think twice, it seemed the instrument had called to him and he wasn’t prepared to ignore it. At first, it sounded awful, and his fingers stung, the skin peeling off but he continued to try to feel the keys. His red fingers skimming them until he finally felt the cold bars, he sighed slowly and pressed down on them, one at a time, hearing the sounds and trying to put them in a memory box. As days and weeks passed, Tate continued to lock himself in the basement, teaching himself how to play the instrument and five years later, he was prepared to leave his family behind, taking the piano with him.

In present day, Tate pressed down on the keys in a certain rhythm that he had created at the age of sixteen, just after moving into his own apartment. He planned that he would teach his child the same tune in hopes that they would one day share a passion as great as piano to Tate.

Do you know the gender of your child? If so, what is he/she? – It’s a girl from what I saw.

Have you picked out any names? If so, what are they? – I don’t know if Zelda has chosen any names yet, sadly. Yet, I would love to name my daughter Ella.

Is your partner going to be there when you give birth? / Are you going to be there when your partner gives birth? / Were you / was your partner there when you/your partner gave birth? – I plan on being there with her.

How did you find out you were having a child/pregnant? – A text message.

Did you tell people right away? – No one on my side of the family knows.

Who was the first person you told and why? – My journal because I didn’t want anyone else to know.

Are you open to strangers touching your (partners) belly? – Absolutely not.

Did you plan on having a child? – Not now.

Have you had children in the past? – Never.

Are you happy to be having this child / having had a child? – I am.

What is your plan after child birth? – To be the best father I could be and find a job suitable for our family.

Are you happy right now? – Yes.

Are you craving right now? If so, what are you craving? / Does your partner crave a lot? If so, are you willing to leave and buy them whatever it is they’re craving? – If she has cravings, I am willing to buy what she craves.

Do you speak to your parents? If so, what do they think? Do they know? – I speak to my parents, yet they don’t know.

Do you have a large family? – Yeah, I have four brothers and one sister along with my parents.

Do you have any siblings? If so, how many? – Four brothers and one sister.

Describe yourself in six words. – Impossible, annoying, lazy, caring, boring, determined

How would your best friend describe you? – A pain in the ass to talk to.

Is there a difference between how you describe yourself and how they describe you? – No, I totally agree with him.

What are your favorite hobbies? – Listening to music and writing poetry.

What do you do when you aren’t with your partner? –- Drink beer and watch TV.

Do you enjoy documentaries? Why or why not? – I can’t stand them. They’re way too boring.

Do you read any pregnancy books/articles/etc? – Secretly, yes.

Where is your favorite place to be? – Alone in my room.

Do you prefer being alone or being with others? – It depends on who I am with.

Do you consider your childhood good or bad? Why? – Mine was alright. I just had fights with my parents when I got older.

If you were to change your name, what would you change it to? – I wouldn’t change my name. It’s my father’s.

Top 3 baby girl names? – Ella, Else, Zelda.

Top 3 baby boy names? – Felix, Apollo, Jake.

Are you thinking about naming your child after someone special? If so, who is it and why? – I want to name her Ella after my aunt who passed from cancer.

Do you sleep a lot? – Yes.

Do you get car sick? – No.

Are you easily-angered? – Yes.

What’s your occupation? – Volunteer fire fighter.

Lastly, do you love yourself? – Absolutely not. I have too many flaws.

Maria Natasha Romanova, it's a mouthful I know.

Do you know the gender of your child? If so, what is he/she?

No! But I'm so excited to find out. I'm secretly hoping for a baby boy..

Have you picked out any names? If so, what are they?

I've always liked the name Noah for a boy, so hopefully my partner agrees but I am willing to wrestle for it.

Is your partner going to be there when you give birth? 

Hopefully! I'd love for him to be there because I'm kinda freaking out about it honestly.. I'm so scared it'll go wrong and I need him there with me.

How did you find out you were having a child/pregnant?

I'd felt sick all day while I was in class, I thought it was just a bug but then one of my friends made a joke that I could be pregnant and I freaked out and took a test to be sure. That's how I found out.

Did you tell people right away?

God no! I still don't think anyone knows but my parents unless they've spread the gossip around town after they kicked me out but I doubt it.. They probably don't want anyone to know about me.

Who was the first person you told and why?

My partner, of course. It took a couple days though, I was scared about what he'd say when he found out. I'm still not sure if he's a 100% okay with it all.

Are you open to strangers touching your belly?

Honestly.. No. I'd rather anyone I didn't know stay at a reasonable distance from the baby.

Did you plan on having a child?

No.. Never. I thought it'd be years before I got pregnant.

Have you had children in the past?

Nope.

Are you happy to be having this child?

I guess so, I'm really scared but I kinda excited?

What is your plan after child birth?

There's no plan.. Just to try my best at being a good mother.

Are you happy right now?

I'm happy enough.

Are you craving right now? If so, what are you craving? 

Always! Right now I'm obsessed with banana milkshakes and party ring biscuits.

Do you speak to your parents? If so, what do they think? Do they know?

No. My parents disowned me as soon as I plucked up the courage to tell them and I think that tells you everything you need to know about what they thought.

Do you have a large family?

Not really.. It was always just me and my parents.

Do you have any siblings? If so, how many?

No, I was an only child.

Oh god.. Well nervous, shy, clumsy, kind, reckless and sometimes spontaneous. 

How would your best friend describe you?

Probably stupid. I haven't spoken to my friends since I left home, they think I'm just some slut now..

Is there a difference between how you describe yourself and how they describe you?

Not really, I'd agree with them too. I am pretty stupid.

What are your favorite hobbies?

I love to draw, I've been into art ever since I was little and I'll always regret not going to art school and resent my parents for not letting me. I'm also into fashion which goes hand in hand with art I think, sometimes I sing but only when I'm alone.

What do you do when you aren’t with your partner?

Mostly read up on baby books and try out new recipes. I'm an awful cook so I really need to up my game!

Do you enjoy documentaries? Why or why not?

If they're on animals then absolutely! Otherwise I do get kinda bored.

Do you read any pregnancy books/articles/etc?

As many as I can get my hands on and afford!

Where is your favorite place to be?

There's a little tree house that I made with my partner when we were kids, it's in a little forest on the outskirts of my dad's land and it's just hidden in the trees. It's just really peaceful there and there's some good memories there that I like to be reminded of. I miss it.

Do you prefer being alone or being with others?

Mostly alone, but there are some times where I feel a bit lonely honestly.

Do you consider your childhood good or bad? Why?

I had a great childhood actually. I had everything I needed and I was always happy and looked after, I was a bit lonely sometimes though. I always kinda wanted a little brother or sister to play with since my parents were busy a lot.

If you were to change your name, what would you change it to?

Probably to Bambi, it's been my nickname since I was very young and it's just always stuck. But I do like my name. Even if it is a bit plain.

Top 3 baby girl names?

Oh gosh, I have so many! Probably Delilah, Darcy and Luna.

Top 3 baby boy names?

This is even harder! I've always loved Noah, Freddy is a cute name and Ezra.

Are you thinking about naming your child after someone special? If so, who is it and why?

Not really..

Do you sleep a lot?

No, I wish I did though. I get night mares a lot and it makes it hard to sleep. I'm hoping they'll stop once the babies arrived.

Do you get car sick?

No!

Are you easily-angered?

Not really, I've never had a temper and I'm quite calm I think? You'll have to ask my partner!

What’s your occupation?

I don't have one, I was a student studying politics at university before I got pregnant though. I'd probably have gone into law or something..
