On Lucy’s Birth- It was about 7pm on my Birthday, October 10th, a Sunday, and I was fielding calls from friends (i.e.- Jon Simon, Felicia Henderson) when my water broke. I was downstairs, on the basement couch, and I was complaining bitterly that no one had made a big deal out of my birthday. We had just moved to Maplewood a month and a half ago, my Bobe Sara was staying with us, and Ari had been working very hard. (Bobe Sara hadn’t actually seen Ari until her 3rd day staying with us) Ari and I decided that it probably wasn’t my water and that we should just go to sleep. In the morning, Columbus Day, I offered to drive Ari into Manhattan as he needed to do a couple things at the office. I dropped him off, found parking and went up to my office with Bobe Sara, who was very embarrassed to be coming to my office wearing shorts. I did some work and called Ana, who promptly invited us over for tea. Again, Bobe Sara was very embarrassed about her shorts. We had something to drink and some delicious cookies, and Ari called to say he would be on his way shortly. At this time, I decided I really should call the doctor about the fact that my water had, in fact, broken. Victoria, his receptionist and nurse put me through to him and he said that I needed to be checked out either by the attending physician at New York-Cornell or by him at his Queens office. I opted to be seen by my doctor, not realizing this would mean that I would soon be admitted at NYHQ! I decided that to keep everyone from panicking, should this be a false alarm
