I don’t think I have any American mutuals much less Texan ones but whatever
We get fairly cold winters bc I’m on the West Coast of Ireland AKA rain central
So here are some of the best things you can do
1. Multiple layers- you might feel stupid wearing three pairs of pants but it’s worth it. Avoid cotton things or ‘breathable’ fabrics bc they let heat escape
2. Keep your doors closed! It’s way easier to keep one room warm than it is to keep the whole house warm. Gather in the warmest room you have and keep doors between rooms closed
3. Keep your head, hands and feet warm especially. Most of your body heat will leach out through your head so wear a hat- multiple if needed, wear a tighter one and then put a looser one. Make sure your ears are covered
4. Coming back to point two. Any sort of blanket/duvet will keep you warm so gather all of your blankets in the room you’re staying in. If you don’t have a lot of blankets clothes will work in a pinch. Once again stay away from ‘breathable’ clothes as they won’t keep you warm
5. If you have to drive, stay on open roads as much as possible. Black ice will probably form on your roads regardless but it will be worse underneath overpasses and bridges.
6. If you’re walking somewhere, walk like a penguin. It will look weird but it’ll keep you on your feet.
7. If you get wet at all IMMEDIATELY remove your wet clothes and change ASAP. Try to change under a blanket to conserve your heat
