Earlier this year I got to collaborate with Mike Lawrence from Tired Hands on a label for a beer they brewed with Heirloom Rustic Ales! This is the result, Nonexistent Origin. The last image is my contribution, and the second is the beer label in a photo by Tired Hands.

Bing Crosby had it right when he sang “Let’s Start The New Year Right” but unfortunately for 2017 I didn’t listen too well. Luckily this year has been a year of change and a year of learning but it just took a while to get it right. I finally left my job of 8 years that was slowly killing me and started with a new amazing company, I moved from NJ to PA, bought a new house, rescued a new dog, and of course drank a shit load of incredible brews.

As far as learning goes, I learned that I can no longer do a somersault without injuring my back, I learned that 70% of famous men are sexual assaulters (is that a word?), I learned that Something To Wrestle (www.mlwradio.com/something-to-wrestle-with-bruce-prichard.html) is the best podcast out there, and most importantly I learned that hard work actually does pay off especially when you least expect it.

Despite all that, the world is still absolute dogshit but luckily it’s for reasons beyond my control but hopefully my yearly “Best Beers Of” list will help you start 2018 off the right way... with a brewski in your hand and a bastard in your heart. Oh, and there were too many beers to just do 10 so we’re going long-form on this one! Without further adieu, I give you 2017′s best beers consumed by yours truly in no particular order:

@tiredhandsbrewing Purpec Wild Ale. Pours a bright, lightly hazy dark orange. Aroma is sour, lightly okay, some funkiness. Taste is more of the same with a little minerality. Definately get the barrel influence in the taste. Crisp. Very complex. I grew up in the mid-Atlantic, taking the scenic rail from Elkins to Cheat Falls each autumn per tradition. Owing to this I've always had a soft spot for Elkins, and even more so, now that Brewstel brew shop and hostel is around to offer a beer and a bunk to the thirsty, weary travelers of the West Virginian Highlands. Refreshing (Tired Hands)

Ok, so this might end up being the shortest review I’ve ever written because I don’t want anything to take away from how incredible this is. A super soft tropical fruit flavor starts things off before some pine and mild hoppy resin bitterness joins in towards the middle with some mango and papaya before ending with some cloud-like guava and citrus flavors. Basically, this beer’s name says it all because this is refreshing as fuck and all levels of drinker should pick it up. Cheers!
