Magic Pet Archetypes
Before you go any further, no, this isn't about stereotypes that apply to your familiar, dragons, or whatever other magical pets you may have.
This is about the game "Magic: the Gathering," and a thing I've noticed over the years playing it.
As anyone who plays the game for long enough knows, there are several archetypes that can be drawn from deck building. From a "artifacts," to "Tron," to "Boros Burn," to just simply "Jund," or even "Mother, May I?" Magic's archetypes show forth between decks in many different ways. Whether referring to Tier 1 Modern decks, or a Homebrew you made from what was lying around, to your league deck, there's some kind of quick name you can call it to identify it as.
But there's always an archetype people want to make happen everywhere, as much as they can.
Take a guy who goes to my LGS, whose name eludes me. He plays Boggles. Pauper Boggles, Modern Boggles, and he's currently trying to see if Legacy Boggles works. I'm sure if he found a decent Legendary, he'd make Commander Boggles. It's his "pet archetype." Sure, when he does league he'd /like/ to try Boggles, but none of the sets line up all too well.
For me, I have two. I have Dredge and Storm. The Janky Combo and Janky Aggro decks. I just love the fact that they aren't really supposed to work, but do anyways. I've made Ydris Dredge (Dredris, who's still in progress), Kess Storm, Modern U/R Gifts Storm, Legacy Storm on Cockatrice, and am looking into Pauper Dredge and Storm (Empty the Warrens and Grapeshot are banned, but this is more of a Impact Tremors/Mirran Spy/Retraction Helix/Ornithopter or Phyrexian Walker deck)
My question, then, to you all is: What's your "Pet archetype"? What's one you cherish above all others, try to cram into every deck that allows it, or even changing a deck entirely to fit it in?
Tagging @imperialseal, @commandtower-solring-go, @tumblhurgoyf, @chelsea-beleren-vess, @hazoretspartyfavors, @flavoracle all because I figured you guys would have some interesting stories/additions to this? Otherwise, sorry for the @ !
