Honest Opinion - Ophiuchus Shaina
Yeah, in Italy she’s got a different name, Tisifone. Which, I have to admit, I like way more than the original.
Overall score (character, not looks): 3/10
Remember what I said about Marin? That she could have been an amazing character but Seiya came along and ruined everything? This is even more true for Shaina. And is the reason why I don’t like her, but I’m mad about not liking her because she had so much potential.
When she first appeared, Shaina was bold and aggressive, she wanted to take what she though was hers, no jokes. Although, I do have to say I didn’t like how many prejudices she had. That’s the only thing I genuinely couldn’t stand of the early version of this character. Putting that aside, Shaina was a badass, a woman that claimed her victories for herself and fought with deadly ability. The fact she had Cassios as her apprentice said a lot about her personality, way different from what she became later on in the series.
But then, of course Seiya had to ruin everything. I swear, his presence only brought bad things to this series. Because, as soon as Shaina showed her skills and her merciless coldness, Seiya disrespects her. He focuses on the fact that she’s a woman, and suddenly she’s not a warrior anymore. What the hell. And then she loses the mask. And her entire character build gets thrown into the trash.
Sure, you might tell me “but he saw her face, so she only had two choices” and so on, but... really?! With a personality like hers, with the way she was presented, the last thing this character needed was to lose all her relevance to fall in love at first sight. Saina hated Seiya, for god’s sake. She wanted to kill him. What the hell is this bullshit you want to feed me?! There’s no way, no way, that losing the mask and having Seiya see her face should have changed her from one thing to another.
[Dub digression]
Let me put aside all this for a second, because there’s one thing I love about Shaina. Her Italian voice actress is fenomenal. The voice fits her character like a glove, and the performance is stunning. She had a couple voices in the series, but the main one lasted from episode 16 to episode 114: this means she only had a different voice actress in episode 1, and as a child.
The main voice actress is called Jasmine Laurenti, and she’s a pretty renown woman, with many many roles. Other that Shaina, some characters I know she dubbed are Sailor Venus (Sailor Moon), Cera (The Land Before Time TV series), Wonder Woman (Injustice 2). And a lot more. As always, here’s a video if you’re curious! Tisifone vs Castalia
[End of the dub digression]
But fine, let’s put that on the side for a second. Luckily, she doesn’t change instantly, after this event. Rather, she sides with the Silver Saints and still retains a bit of her aggressive behavior. The thing is, this doesn’t last that long. During the fight between Bronze and Silver Saints, in fact, she becomes more and more useless, and fades to the background to leave space to other characters. And when the series finally gets to her confronting Seiya one on one, what does that idiot do? Still. Refuses. To. Fight. Something that’s clearly disrespectful. Shaina urges him to fight because she wants to be recognized as a warrior no less than any other man, yet he refuses.
Spare me the flashbacks, because come on. Shaina was a child, back then, a child! How can you make me believe she loves Seiya because of a kind gesture back when they were children?!?! I don’t care that they were training to become Saints and contacts between girls and boys were scarce, there’s no way a child can fall in love so desperately as to be still in love as an adult. At least, not if person A sees person B for like, 5 minutes, and then never interacts with person B again. But fine, who am I to judge.
What I really find awful, for a character like Shaina, is how willing she was to die for someone else. I mean, I can understand if they told me “she’s dying for Athena”, that’s justifiable. But jumping in front of a Gold Saint’s attack for another Saint she literally hated not even a month before? Come. On. No.
From then on, she’s reduced to a background plot device. She’s the object of someone else’s desires, and as such she’s not given the opportunity to have a choice. Even if her decision was stupid in my book, dying from the hands of Aiolia to save Seiya and whatnot, it was her decision. But, since Shaina lost her privilege of being a relevant character, her own apprentice disregarded everything to decide in her place. I don’t care that it was to save her: he was in love with her, he decided for her, he stopped Shaina from being a tri-dimensional character for the sake of her being a woman in distress for the plot.
Unfortunately, things got even worse. The Poseidon Arc was the last straw. I saw what they did to her character, and decided she became my least favorite Saint after Seiya. And it wasn’t even the character’s fault.
When Shaina first appeared, I have to admit, she seemed better than what we were left off. I though “yes, she’s back to normal finally”, but then Seiya happened again and you know what? Nope. Moreover, how can you show this woman face a god with the intention to fight, but as soon as this useless teenager of a Saint comes around she’s back at being all mushy and weak?! Yeah, sure.
At that point I just said “screw it, this is fucking awful”, and trust me I don’t feel bad about it. There’s so much that makes me mad in the adaptation of that scene, and this was just the last bit of bullshit picking away at my patience. I love Saint Seiya, I really do. I love how deep and meaningful the characters are. But when they do shit like this, just for the sake of the plot and the protagonist, and for fanservice, I lose my mind. This is not a damn fanfiction, you can’t take a character and do whatever you want with it just so fans can be lured into being happy.
Why.

DCUO OCs by Fade31415
[image: a digital art showing four female toons from DC universe online. The first is a human (Die Ann) wearing a yellow shirt, yellow trimmed hood and boots, and black trench coat and cargo pants. She has a gold domino mask and gold bow, and is floating in the air with her knee up. The second is another human woman (Tisifone) who is tall and buff and is wearing a red and brown metal chest plate, golden gauntlets, and dark brown pants and books. She has tattoos on her arms and face and red hair. next is a green skinned plant person (Persela) who is lean and has a runner's body. She is wearing green leggings and a green crop to and red shorts. She's smiling and stretching her hands out, fingers laced together, like she's about to get read to do something physical. The fourth is a robot with silver skin, wearing a blue and purple skin tight superhero outfit with a cape. She has her arms crossed confidently and is smiling. end image]
I decided to draw all my DCUO OCs, since I was thinking about it lately
Everyone’s body type except the robot (Hazard Bot, the far right) got changed from in game, cuz in game models are not very varied. I reffed an olympic archer for Die Ann, but you can’t see her guns cuz she wears trenchcoats all the time. Tisifone is big and buff and Persela is a speedster so I reffed a long distance runner for her.
team dynamic: Tisifone thinks she’s the leader even though they didn’t choose anyone :P but she’s the most experienced and is bossy. She thinks Die Ann is a rookie who’s gonna get herself killed (Die Ann is the most new to this). Persela and Hazard Bot both want to have fun. Hazard Bot wants to learn about humans and superheroes by imitating them, Persela's duties are to protect the earth
Acto cero, tercera parte.
Tisifone wip by CristianoReina
[image: one screencap and three of my drawings. First, there’s a drawing of Tisifone, a buff woman with pale-ish skin and red tattoos and spikey red hair. she has sharp teeth and is smiling, and is wearing a red and black chestplate that covers the top of her chest but not her stomach. next is the screencap shows a woman in DC universe online character create with the “mesa” body type - she’s very tall and has long legs and large breasts, somewhat defined calves, a narrow waist and somewhat defined shoulders. she’s next to a white sketch on blue background that shows a woman with a similar body type in height proportion wise, but with a much sturdier waist and slightly thicker arms and legs. finally, there is tisifone again, with the same proportions as the sketch but fully colored, dressed in a red and black chestplate, armored skirt, knee-high boots, and large shoulder pads, with a greek themed helmet and a cape. her eyes are glowing red. end image]
I needed a pick me up so I decided to figure out how tisifone’s body type and armor worked.
I kept her with the same general long proportions of her body type in game, but gave her a bit more muscle esp around the waist. (comparison included).i was inspired by actual athletes. I mean, tisifone has super strength so i guess she could have any body type i felt like, but i still wanted her to look strong.
i was kind of torn on her crop top armor versus a real armored top. i decided to go with the crop top because i wanted to emphasize her muscles - i figured she could have the power-fantasy type of shirtlessness/ semi shirtlessness, like hawkman
she’s wearing the greco-roman armor i got dropped from the bestiamorphs (except i didn’t get dropped the top or chest -_- but her cape, shoulderpads, boots, helmet, and arm guards re it). i reffed online for the skirt but liked the top i wear in game better.
i reffed a pic (link) for the shading on the top picture, since i really wanted to get better at shading muscles
