Wait, how old is Jackie?
25 😭 or at least that's what she tells jim in episode 8
I just had a norribeth thought and no one to share it with. A fic where norribeth are married to save her image after Jack stripped and saved from drowning. Its slow going romance wise (James is totally in love but Elizabeth resents being forced to marry) and James goes to sea to find jack but his ship is caught in a storm and he's presumed dead. Elizabeth is left a widow and has to mourn very publicly, but then a year later the Pearl comes to port & James is alive and held hostage for ransom.
Well! The first half of that certainly reminded me of A Remedy Against Sin, by @snowbryneich! (Which is a phenomenal fic by one of the very talented writers that inspired me to eventually write my own Norribeth stories.) But that last part, it puts me in mind of a different fic called Absence and Memory, by Meddow.
Neither of these fic recs are exactly what you’ve written here, but they may scratch that itch for you. As for the idea itself-
A great majority of Norribeth fanfiction is grounded in the arranged marriage trope. It fits with the pairing, but I also think that, generally, the kind of person who is drawn to Norribeth as a ship is inclined to like a slow-burn, learning-to-love scenario. Temporarily unrequited love abounds!
But the idea that James isn’t dead, but held for ransom? And by The Pearl?? That could be an interesting plotline for sure. ESPECIALLY if it follows canon to a certain point, and Will is among the crew. What would Elizabeth’s reaction be, I wonder? Would she demand another parley in order to take her husband back through diplomacy? Or would she employ more violent means? I have to say, I enjoy the picture of her swooping in, eyes wild, hair whipping in the wind, a blade in one hand, a pistol in the other, death in her eyes and commanding with authority, ‘I’ll be having my husband back now.’
Your basic DiD. Except this time, James is the Damsel in Distress.I love it. ♡
Thank you for the ask, my dear! I hope this answer satisfies!
What you said on the three is yellow post has really made me curious how your emotional interpretation effects your art. I'd love to see the difference in you painting to your feelings and the colours they represent vs the "standard" of like yellow being happy and red being aggressive etc. Is your favourite colour related to what emotion it is for you? What about people around you and the colours they wear it dye their hair etc? I have so many questions... (Feel free to publish btw.)
I actually spent about two years when I was doing really intense trauma therapy with my watercolour pad and my paints with me in session, just doing nonsense shapes and colours based on how i was feeling. I had mentioned the synesthesia thing to my psych and he was really interested in it. It turned out to be a really useful tool and allowed him to track the kinds of things that would get an emotional reaction out of me, and by starting a new page and painting in calm safe colours it was easy for me to calm down at the end of the session. I’ve got dozens of paintings done like this, with notes on what we spoke about. They take up an entire wall when I put them up. They’re very abstract, and I found it easier to ‘read’ them if i followed a pattern around the page, not doing anything in the same spot twice, more like writing than drawing.
Starting at the top left hand corner and around in an anticlockwise spiral around the edges of the page somehow made sense.
I’ve always been able to connect memories to what i’m drawing at the time, its how I used to take notes in class. I would draw continuously with a pen and when I look at each spot i remember what was said or what I was thinking when I did that. Now it helps me to remember the things we talk about in therapy, and also i can see patterns in things when I have them all up on a wall. Its most useful when i am actually in hospital and seeing my doctor multiple times a week and discussing trauma/theory/feelings in a safe environment where i can actually bust them open and not be left to my own devices afterwards, because then i can physically see the pattern of my emotional state for the past week, and how it changes depending on the topic of the week. Or pinpoint what session (and what we were discussing in that session) caused me to have a breakdown.
I don’t tend to use colours in the same way in my digital art, most of the work i post online is more illustrative than emotional, or is intended to share a feeling to other people and not just as a reference for myself, so how i can communicate emotions to people outside my head plays more into the choices i make. Mostly I just have to pick music that kind of matches the colour pallette i’m using with stuff, hozier doesn’t work with something like the brightly coloured frogs so I listen to jpop and billie eilish when I’m doing them. I tend to leave my more emotional art for traditional mediums, bc of the way you pick colours from a physical palette and blend. I find colour picking on something like PS where you’re moving sliders around to interrupt the ‘feels right’ aspect of choosing colours from a paint tray.
GO Rom Com Spotlight: @tisziny
The most excellent @tisziny (also tisziny on AO3) has claimed Imagine Me and You to adapt for Good Omens in the Good Omens Rom Com Event.
For reference, here’s a little background about the source material!
About Imagine Me and You: During her wedding ceremony, Rachel (Piper Perabo) notices Luce (Lena Headey) in the audience and feels instantly drawn to her. The two women become close friends, and when Rachel learns that Luce is a lesbian, she realizes that despite her happy marriage to Heck (Matthew Goode), she is falling for Luce. As she questions her sexual orientation, Rachel must decide between her stable relationship with Heck and her exhilarating new romance with Luce.
We spent some time chatting about how the adaptation is coming so far, as well as future plans for it! Now, get to know @tisziny a little better!

goromcom: So, about your Tumblr. When someone opens a chat with you here, Tumblr reports that you post "about #jinkx monsoon and #reply". Let me take a wild guess -- are you a fan of Dru Paul's Drag Race?
tisziny: I am a fan of Rupauls Drag Race, but a little bit less so lately. It's all pretty repetitive and sold out for straight audiences.
goromcom: I’ve heard that! Such a shame.
You chose to adapt Imagine Me and You as your rom com. Has this movie been a favorite of yours, or is there some other reason you chose it?
tisziny: I love the movie Imagine Me And You. When I first came out as gay my older sister (she's bi and a relationship with a woman) gave me a list of heaps of queer movies and blogs and things like that. I watched Imagine Me and You and it was probably the first lesbian movie I saw. So yeah it has a soft spot with me.
goromcom: That’s really sweet! Knowing that the movie holds a special place in your heart, what's your favorite moment of Imagine Me and You, and are you looking forward to presenting it in your adaptation? Any loose plans for that scene that you can share?
tisziny: My favourite part of the movie is probably just the dynamic between all the characters. Which is silly because obviously that changes. I also really love the character H, Rachel's little sister. She's being replaced with twins, a boy, Warlock, and a girl, Ada (Adam).
goromcom: Do you plan to stick very closely to the story beats of the original movie, or make bigger changes?
tisziny: There will be changes, definitely. The character of Coop probably won't exist in my version, or his part will be significantly smaller. The story of Hec and his shitty boss is changed because Hec is being replaced with Newt. I can't imagine Newt being a bigshot at work or lying to clients, etc. I'm going to stick to the general theme and major plot points of the movie but I don't just want to completely regurgitate it with different names.
goromcom: I think that’s definitely a good call!
What's an interesting decision you've made in your planning so far--a notable casting decision, a changing of venue, or some other plan you have to paint Good Omens all over your rom com?
tisziny: I suppose the biggest thing is I decided to keep it lesbians? So we have Azira Fell (daughter of Gabriel and Michaela Fell) and Antoine Crowley (daughter of Gezibelle Tracy and the absent Louis Crowley).
goromcom: Oh goodness, I wonder who some of those people might be? ;)
With those little sneak previews now given, we’ll move on to the last question, which I am blatantly stealing from The Good Place: The Podcast. Tell me something "good". It can be something big or small. It can be a charity you think is doing good work, or you can talk about how great your pet is.
tisziny: Something good... I've been writing and rewriting this and it sounds so cheesy and bullshit but it's true. My best friend is alive and happy. And if you knew just half of what she's faced, honestly this is beyond my wildest dreams.
goromcom: I’m so grateful to hear that, and that you have someone wonderful like that in your life. Best wishes to your best friend from all of us. <3
Stay tuned to this space once posting for the GO Rom Com event begins, to see @tisziny‘s adaptation of Imagine Me and You!

S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?
With Spirk its that sweet accidental bonding
With Azcrow i LOVE LOVE LOVE long term pining Crowley
T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?
Coming into the good omens fandom I’ve found that one of the preferences in fic is big drama and poetic language which might be a direct response to the style of the source material (pithy humor) and while that’s fine, i prefer straightforward prose that has a lot of inherent humor. so its been difficult to get my grubby lil hands on some humor
W: Do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones?
i like specific ones i think. i enjoy either something straight and to the point OR a more detailed list, almost like an outline. if someone gives me a generic word or atmospheric detail my brain will run ragged
Prompt: 13 being smitten and generally really gay for river in heels (and thus taller than her).
