5th Aug 2018 I watched a remarkable display of pure stubborn heart and determination from a young Swansea man whom I'd heard so much about from my sons BJJ coach. The fight between @brettjohnsmma and @pedromunhozmma is... Well...go watch it ... He was literally carried out of the octagan! I remember thinking I would love to meet this former #titanfc and @cagewarriors Bantamweight Champ and ask what on earth got him through that fight. In October the same year I got my wish. Pic #1 is Brett in full flow detailing every punch and kick from that fight. His eyes were alive with the retelling of that tale as we walked about @libertystadium home of his beloved @swansofficial Pic #2 looks innocuous but its the exact moment Brett began one his biggest fights, recovery from injury. His knee injury at @polaris_professional would sideline him for such a frustrating amount of time that I wasn't sure we would ever see him back. I would check on him from time to time as he seemed really down. I'm not sure many casual fans would appreciate the struggle, the persistent pain, the uncertainty that comes with severe injury in professional sports but how this man has bounced back is nothing short of inspiring. He dealt with his adversity with the same heart and toughness he showed against Pedro. Trips to the @ufcpi and rehab protocols phone calls with agents @suckerpunchprod and @suckerpunchent to book another fight it all seemed so far away. Nearly 2 years later. A new master and commander. A new team and training partners. Wins in the bag and tonight ANOTHER test and tough opponent in the bag. I have so much more to say than a hastily scribbled Instagram post. Congratulations Brett. I hope I catch you soon dude.
