RUNAWAY ; open
as easy as it would have been to stick by gabriel's side all night-- and really, she would have been perfectly okay with hogging him all to herself-- she couldn't be selfish with him. he had friends to find, people to socialize with. jazmine had her own share of friends she could have been interacting with as well. instead, she found herself hovering near the refreshments, squinting whenever she thought she might recognize someone. reactive adaption would have been great if it worked on command, like for instance, if she could suddenly develop some kind of x-ray vision to see beneath the masks of strangers and friends alike. nothing was that easy, not for jazmine.
she had been able to find a few people in the crowd, but for the most part, it was a lost cause. any of those masks could have been hiding her worst nightmare, or his counterpart. the last thing she wanted was to run into one of her demon foes, not when leon liked nothing more than to get under her skin. she couldn't risk it, so she faded to the background, carefully sipping on a little plastic cup filled with punch that was rather unfortunately not spiked with anything exciting, hoping that she didn't spill it on her white dress. she hadn't even noticed she was staring at somebody, squinting to see if she recognized them until she made eye contact with the mystery person. "sorry," she blurted out quickly. "i didn't mean to stare. i mean-- well, i wasn't staring. well kind of i-- sorry, i just thought you were somebody i knew."
