Mike Crew, determined to not be another victim became exactly that. He searched for power in many corners of the universe through several sources but was ultimately powerless. It’s not an uncommon theme in the Magnus Archives, but it is a shame we never got to see this character again. At least I think so, cause I never really knew why “The Coming Storm” or Mike in general felt like afterthoughts in my head for the longest time? I’d latched onto characters that appeared far less. On relisten I realized it was probably because he dies in the same episode he’s truly introduced.
Mike would’ve been an interesting candidate for Jon’s position, as his search for power is very similar to Jon’s own search for knowledge in Season 3 (definitely an intentional parallel). I wonder if Mike had managed to stay alive until Season 4 could he have successfully pulled off a master ritual? It did seem like he was content to stop once he found the Vast though, he doesn’t talk much about the other powers he never found, at least not directly. There are plenty of moments in his story that could lean into other entities if his own fear pulled them that way. The DARK upside down forest, him being HUNTED by the Lichtenberg figure all his life, even the lightning scar he’s most recognized for could’ve easily been a desolation mark if it was the burning and the fire that really got to him, or the loss of his parents in that house because the Desolation is not just fire!! It is losing, the destruction of things you love. Which in its own funny way can tie into the Lonely etc.
The more you think about it the more the lines between these entities are very blurred and which one takes center stage for any given event is entirely subjective to the audience. Sure, monsters and servants can have some sway, but you don’t really see anyone trying to “get” someone that isn’t already skewed toward that entity in the first place, whether through their own personal fear (like Paul MacKenzie from A Sturdy Lock, or Benjamin Hadid from Tucked In), or just the nature of their life putting them adjacent to it (like Karolina Gorka from Underground, Jordan Kennedy from Pest Control, or Rosa Meyer from Observer Effect). The second one is always more of a challenge so the end result may vary.
Sometimes I remember Daisy "had Elias on her list too" but chose to go after Jon first despite not having clear evidence of him being the murderer (but having evidence of Elias being an Eldritch serving shit who outright attacked her) all because Jon was obviously weaker and easier to 'pick on' than Elias and I get... So mad

WHAT
Ohoho! I finally got around to posting the newest addition to my avatars series: Mike Crew! In all fairness, he WAS just trying to be polite.
[ID: This is a drawing of Michael Crew from the Magnus Archives. Mike is a very pale, thin white man with a curly bleach blonde undercut and pale, grey-blue eyes. He has a large Lichtenberg figure shaped scar on his cheek, neck, and hand. He is wearing a large, grey knit sweater and a royal blue scarf billowing out behind his shoulder. He is holding a navy mug, and has two silver rings in his ear. He is looking at the viewer with an expression of disdain, and behind him is a dark background filled with bolts of lightning. End ID/]
