“You're a child. An infant. Your mocking is thus infantile. He's not my boyfriend. This man is more to me than you can dream. He's the moon when I'm lost in darkness and warmth when I shiver in cold. And his kiss still thrills me, even after a millennia. His heart overflows with the kindness of which this world is not worth of. I love this man beyond measure and reason. He's not my boyfriend. He's all and he's more.“
Support your local gif makers! In celebration of my one year gif-iversary, I am posting shoutouts to gif makers who have motivated and inspired me with their creativity in the past year. This post is for Beatriz, whose gifs can be found here.
I found Beatriz’s blog a short while ago while going through the HSMTMTS tags, and I was instantly drawn in by their advanced skill for pastel coloring. As someone who still uses pastel psds as a crutch, I’m amazed at how well they have gotten this effect down to a science, even well enough to teach others. They do almost exclusively pastel coloring, and their gifsets are always exciting and compelling thanks to their ability to include pops of color that tie gifsets together neatly.
MUST-SEE EDITS
Alex Gaskarth - This gifset is a beautiful introduction to Beatriz’s skill for isolating moving subjects onto plain backgrounds. There are gifs in this set that feature a very wide range of motion, yet Beatriz has handled them with care and precision, and it is this exact skill that sets them apart as an editor. The very first gif catches the viewers attention immediately, as the shot pans all the way down Alex’s body; in this shot, even with all the motion, the background stays the same color, and Beatriz even added a pop of red for his sweater.
Cars - The brilliant reds make this gifset stand out instantly, as we watch this bold hue make its way through each gif in the set. Here, Beatriz showed off their incredible skill for color matching, as every red matches and fits with the others. The attention to detail here is stunning, and we can see that Beatriz opted to mute the blues but not completely eliminate them into grey, accenting the reds perfectly.
Despicable Me - While we have seen what Beatriz can do with a select few colors, this gifset shows that they can truly do it all, incorporating some of each color into this captivating creation. In this set we see Beatriz’s talent for careful and purposeful scene selection; this collection of images represents the film well and plays off of each other to add depth to the whole picture. The cropping of the top right gif is intentional and well done, as it brings less focus onto Gru’s face and more onto the illustrations.
DPS: “I loved my friend” - If you take a look at Beatriz’s blog, you’ll find out very quickly that they love Dead Poets Society. Their devotion to this movie has been shown in countless gifsets and even a whole gif challenge. This beautiful set illustrates that sometimes less is more, that negative space can paint a more vivid picture than positive space. The quote paired with the emptiness of the dark space furthers the tragedy of the film’s plot and elicits emotion from the viewer.
Sharpay Evans - This gorgeous gifset uses shades of pink to paint a picture of the iconic diva Sharpay Evans. The first gif immediately catches our attention as her eyes widen and sparkle. Looking further into the gifset, we notice Beatriz’s skillful cropping and framing of shots in a way that emphasizes aspects of Sharpay’s character. Upon even further analysis we see the way Beatriz cleverly incorporated pale pink gifs of fireworks and graduation caps to top off Sharpay’s aesthetic.
