controversial opinion:

In tmnt 2012 Leo is the one who is the most like the Shredder and Raph is the one most like Splinter. That's why Splinter is so hard on Leonardo and why he pushes him to be leader. To be a good example for his brothers but not let him become arrogant. To try to make his center be on family and the ninja code of honor. Why Leonardo is so subconsciously afraid of the Shredder and so obsessed with self sacrifice and trying to be better. Trying to keep his family safe. He needs to be in control because he refuses to repeat the past and be like that monster. In mutant apocalypse we see him becoming like the Shredder when his center, his reason for being is taken away. Plus Leo and Raph parallel Saki and Yoshi so much. Raph is so much like Splinter, he's artistic, a romantic, has anger issues, is a little brother, deeply loves his big brother. Their story ends happy and breaks the cycle once Leo kills the Shredder.

headcanon that mikey couldn't sleep during the nights after splinter's death.

so he would take his blanket and head outside and sleep on the ground next to the freshly dug dirt. his brothers would find him in the morning, curled into a small ball with dried tear tracks staining his cheeks.

it wasn't long before they started doing the same. because they needed each other and most importantly, they needed splinter, and this was the closest they could be without practically digging up his grave.

april and karai had to urge them inside after a while, because they'd get sick if they slept in the rain.

there was a lot of screaming and crying involved for all parties. everyone was grieving and no one knew how to deal with it.

with multiple people, human and mutant alike, tangled and tied together by chains and nunchaku and rope and bedsheets, they'd collapse in exhaustion and fall asleep. it was a turtle pile in practice but it felt like anything but.

no one could move without tugging on the restraints that tied them together. perhaps it was a bad tactic on april and karai's end to keep the turtles from killing themselves out with the elements, but if it worked, it worked. and maybe their brothers screamed at them until their throats were raw. maybe they screamed back. maybe they tried to claw at each other and rip each other apart as best they could tied together, but it always ended with tears and mumbled apologies and restless sleep.

casey untied them an entire week later, when he believed they could all behave themselves, because he was barely holding it together as it is, and he doubts he'll be able to reign them all in if they lash out again.

so the turtles sleep by the living room windowsill now. april and karai watch them like hawks. casey keeps the rope and chains and bedsheets close by, should he be the one to wrestle any one of them (or all of them) to the floor.

they've fallen so far and are broken beyond repair. but they can stand to exist with one another, and that's gotta count for something.

oh splinter would be so disappointed in them. they can't bring themselves to care.

requiem and owari kinda suck

it especially does splinter so dirty.

like requiem has this whole deal about “leo don’t lead with your head lead with your heart”

which i hate.

like,, listen. yes your heart, which ig means your love for others? is very important! but without your mind, your heart has no direction

what splinter should’ve said is something like,, use your head, but use it for the good of your team, or something.

also leo said splitting up was a bad idea later in the episode, and splinter told him no,,,, EVEN THO LEO WAS RIGHT??? he was using his head to keep his team safe!! he had the better strategy!

splinter’s plan just got himself killed!!

and his whole talk with leo just bothers me. i don’t like the “oh no you asking to be leader didn’t matter bc you were gonna be leader anyway” thing. like don’t tell him that agdkah.

say something more like,, “you asking showed your humility and eager spirit to lead your brothers.”

and also it implies that splinter put more effort into teaching leo to be a leader than the others.

yes leo is best qualified to be the leader. but everyone has leader qualities, and to ignore those qualities for the other 3 brothers is a bad move. teach them to also know how to lead in case something happened to leo. don’t put leo on such a pedestal. also leo has such an ego, pls don’t encourage it agdkahdk

also i have mixed feelings about karai being sent to the hospital. i like how she goes down in a burning building as an echo to her mother’s death, but karai deserved to join her brothers in defeating shredder.

and leo shouldn’t have been the one giving her mouth to mouth bc of implications

like,,, any of her other brothers or splinter or april would’ve been better bc there’s no implications there. or have shini do it.

and in owari, I HATE IT SM.

splinter’s like,,,,, “so yknow how i’ve been telling you for the whole series, as recently as two episodes ago, that revenge is always a bad idea … yeah ignore that and go avenge me pls”

i just wish instead of splinter telling them to avenge him, shredder went and decided to destroy splinter’s family too, and the turtles defeated him in defense or something. it might’ve made more sense idk.

and the fight scene is cool but i have notes.

i wish april and casey got a few hits before losing the boss fight privileges. they were shoved out before it even started smh.

all the boys got their spotlight which i love but ,,,, WHY WAS DONNIE KICKED OUT FIRST I HATE IT

and it sucks bc he almost got the coolest part of the fight. when he dived at shredder with his naginata and splashed him with retromutagen. it felt so worthless and idk i want more for donnie.

i like leo beheading shredder but i wish the brothers were there to witness it. like it only being leo there feels less like teenage mutant ninja turtles,,, all four brothers ,,,,, and more like the leonardo show. LEO’S MY FAVORITE CHARACTER BUT HES NOT THE ONLY MAIN CHARACTER.

and like okay there are good scenes (like april and casey) but these are my gripes that i’m thinking about rn

You know what’s a bummer about how season 4 ended?

...Shredder won. Sure, Leo managed to decapitate him shortly after, but think about it... Shredder’s greatest ambition and hope was that one day, he would kill Hamato Yoshi. He was obsessed with revenge. All he cared about was killing his brother, and he finally did.

He then spent the rest of his days, as brief as they were, relishing in his victory. He probably thought he had the fight with the turtles in the bag right up until Leo finished him. 

That smug son of a batch of cookies eventually got his way, even if it was just for a few days. Even though the theme song says, “The good guys win and the bad guys lose,” it doesn’t feel like it. I can only hope that killing Splinter didn’t give him the satisfaction he hoped it would... and that if it’s true people can be conscious for a few seconds after decapitation, he had just enough time to think, “Shoot, I lost!” I’m not mad at the writers for writing it this way... they crafted a story that made me feel all the feels. Still... it’s a major bummer.
