TMPhoto: Tell us about your background and what you do for a living… Chris: I grew up in Washington D.C. Both of my parents were lawyers. My mom is a first generation immigrant, with her mom coming to the U.S. from the Philippines at 18 years old, and my dad was raised in South Carolina and comes from a relatively traditional southern household. I grew up not too rooted in either culture, encouraged to be who I was from the beginning, and invited to find myself along the way. I found people with similar differences as me in theatre, and began performing from a young age. I’m not sure I expected it to come this far as to now be going to college for a degree in musical theatre, but I do know there is nothing else I would rather be doing. I have observed how it can heal, help grow and transform people in countless positive ways. Though it is what I intend to do for a living at some point, I’m currently a student, absorbing and continuously opening up to the world of it all, remaining eager yet grounded in where I feel I should be right now.
