The TNT title match was in a rough situation, but I think they handled it well.
My hunch is Kyle Fletcher was going to beat Adam Cole for the title with Daniel Garcia possibly turning heel on Adam.
But Adam's illness/injury and the suggestion that it could be career-ending cast a weird vibe over the whole match.
You have something that is a for-real bummer, so you probably don't want the heel to win. But also, Kyle Fletcher is a guy who absolutely deserves to win, so he might have gotten cheers in victory just because the crowd wanted to lighten the mood.
There were some cool, underappreciated moments like Sammy and Danny trading Chris Jericho moves, since they know each other from their time in the Jericho Appreciation Society.
But I think Dustin winning does a lot of things. You get a feel-good moment after the heaviness with a deserving legend winning something. You can tease Sons of Texas tension, or show that Sammy is decent and supports Dustin, since we keep insisting on Sammy Guevara being a thing.
But more importantly, you can have heel-ass Kyle Fletcher ruin Dustin's last ride of glory by taking that belt at a later date when we are more in a mood to boo an asshole. You can also have Danny be a dick about it, if you want to continue that too.
It was a bad situation, but I can see how they made the most of it.
