1:25billion people in the world it only

1:28takes a few% of the rest of the world to

1:30move to the country to where it is no

1:32longer that country

2:09an alliance already but I'm hopeful that

2:11there can be a very close relationship

2:13with America and Europe

2:16Um and uh I'm hopeful for example with

2:19the tariffs that that uh at the end of

2:21the day it I hope it is agreed that both

2:25Europe and the United States should move

2:28ideally in my view to a zero tariff

2:30situation effectively creating a free

2:32trade zone between Europe and North

2:35America Um and uh that that would be my

2:40that's what I hope I hope occurs

2:43Um and also uh more more freedom of

2:46people to move between Europe and North

2:48America if if they wish if they wish to

2:51work in Europe or wish to work in

2:52America they should be allowed to do so

2:55in my view Um so that that has certainly

2:59been my uh advice to the president

3:06coalition has long promoted protection

3:08of national industry but now finds

3:11itself aligned with Musk's call for

3:13greater transatlantic cooperation at

3:15least when it comes to

2:01pessimistic or why are you saying that?"

2:04So I think that there is a real

2:08understanding yes there are multiple

2:11powers and uh yes the United States is

2:15no longer in charge

2:19i don't know what implication

2:22uh they take from that and how much

2:25Trump's actions are in some response to

2:29that i think there are several points

2:33that are

2:35uh that do follow that we could trace

2:39one as I said Trump is not interested

2:43in the Ukraine war at all so he would

2:48like it to end he's in no position to

2:51ask for more financial support for

2:55Ukraine in any event

2:57so that's why the war will end one way

3:01or

3:01another but he probably also understands

3:06we're not defeating Russia uh and so the

3:10whole point is uh pretty useless to be

3:14having this war

3:17that's a reflection of reality uh in

3:19this

3:21sense but he t take another implication

3:25of that one implication is he'd like to

3:27devo he he's happy to divide the spoils

3:31of Ukraine with Putin you take these

3:34minerals we'll take these minerals so

3:37they're they're dividing up Ukraine

3:39ukraine is the is is is the absolute

3:44loser in this predicate French and

3:48Britain used to do in the Middle East

3:50this is basically this is basically what

3:53Trump is is doing or trying to do i

3:56don't think it can work so crudely as uh

4:01as Trump believes but that's the level

4:04at which is this is being done he and

4:08Vladimir will divide Ukraine

4:11and will end the conflict and we'll

4:14respect each other on that but then

4:18Trump is also asking how can America

4:22regain its its

4:25strength and he comes up with multiple

4:28answers one answer that he's

4:31absolutely dead serious about is

4:34recognizing that because of global

4:37warming ironically the northern route

4:40and the Arctic has been opened up and

4:43the United States is not an Arctic

4:45country other than a small stretch of

4:49Alaska and so Trump

4:52absolutely believes that Canada needs to

4:56belong to the United States and

4:58Greenland needs to belong to the United

5:00States that is not rhetoric it's not a

5:04joke it is obscene but it is not a joke

5:08uh and the reason that he wants it is

5:13that the Arctic has become a strategic

5:17part of the world because it's no longer

5:20an icebound wilderness it's now going to

5:24be central for international trade and

5:27resource development and so that's where

5:29that comes from so

5:32that's a a kind of limited imperialism

5:36it's a western hemisphere imperialism

5:38that Trump is actually trying to invoke

5:44again I think the US probably will

5:47militarily occupy Greenland during his

5:51uh

5:53administration that's an invasion of

5:55Europe i bet that it will take place i

5:58don't think the US will occupy Canada

6:01but I do think that with the 50,000

6:04people of Greenland the United States

6:06may just decide it's going to take

6:09Greenland and that's that it won't stand

6:12it won't work for the longer term it

6:15will be a disaster but it could very

6:18well happen so that's the kind one kind

6:21of response trump

6:24also I'm sure believes that the tariffs

6:28are necessary for America to restore its

6:32greatness in some sense and probably

6:36what he has in mind is we don't produce

6:38enough steel and aluminum to build our

6:43uh arms industry and so forth and we

6:47can't compete with China uh unless we

6:50restore basic heavy industry so I think

6:53that that is uh he doesn't express it in

6:57a very clear way and the tariff policy

7:01is an absurd way to approach this and

7:04it's going to fail but it's probably on

7:07his mind in the way you're saying Ronnie

7:09that um that this is part of the

7:12rebuilding process for the US

7:16the problem that I have with all of that

7:19is I've never seen more illiterate

7:24economic

7:26policy be it's not even policy that's a

7:30grandiose term for what passes as a

7:33thought process day by day we have no

7:39institutional We have no institution in

7:42the United States asking the question

7:46about industrial policy or strategy none

7:50we have no planning agency we have no

7:55NRDC uh NDRC um we have uh no uh economy

8:02ministry we have

8:05no

8:07institutional process thinking about

8:11America's economic future

8:13because this is not how it's done in the

8:16United States the only industrial

8:18planning we have in the United States is

8:19the Pentagon uh and that's to build you

8:22know F-35s and so on it's not to do

8:26infrastructure or economic

8:28revitalization so what Trump is doing is

8:32complete

8:34improvisation you cannot run a $30

8:37trillion economy on

8:40improvisation but that's literally what

8:42is happening right now uh in terms of

8:45government policy we don't even have

8:47congressional hearings where ideas are

8:50discussed where experts testify we don't

8:53have white papers we don't have green

8:55papers we don't have any process of

8:58thinking right now we have edicts from

9:02the White House that's a very strange

9:05way to run a country
