once again spreading the word of the canonically gay wolverine variant
Buck finds him leaning on the island, still clutching his phone, staring at the black screen. His jaw is clenched tight, his whole body tense, like if he keeps himself locked up tight enough, his emotions can’t leak out.
Buck rests a hand on his back. He knows how much he’s hurting. How hard it was to decide not to go home to son, to keep him safe by staying away.
“Hey.”
Eddie jolts and jerks his head and the hand with the phone towards the couch.
“I’ll just, uh- sorry.”
“Eddie.”
Eddie looks up, eyes red rimmed, like the tears are only refusing to fall by sheer force of will.
Buck grabs his hand.
“Come on, Eds. Come upstairs.”
He doesn’t pull Eddie into his arms like he wants to. He shuffles him into the bathroom and makes him brush his teeth, and then tugs him up the stairs and leaves him to strip down to his boxers while he does the same. When he comes back up, he guides Eddie to sit down on the bed, tries to ignore how vacant his eyes look.
When he crawls in on the other side, he reaches out to grab Eddie’s hand. “It’s gonna be okay, Eddie.”
The breath he drags in sounds like it hurts him, it’s so jagged.
Buck pulls him in, and in the dark of his loft Eddie lets himself be held, and lets himself cry into Buck’s shoulder.
“I promised,” he sobs.
“You won’t break it, Eddie. He knows that.”
He digs his fingers into his back, pulls him almost on top of him, and holds him tight while he shakes and cries and lets all his worst fears out seep out of him and into Buck's skin.
