to rain llover
Gene Kelly seemed very jovial when he was singing (and dancing) in the rain.
i’m thinking about how ferrix is a desert planet and cassian is associated with water. (it’s also probably much, much colder than kenari, and we see him always covered in layers and layers when walking around, even inside.) which makes sense- a shipbreaking planet is going to want a very cold, dry climate that will keep the massive hulks of ships they keep out in the open from rusting. but what happens in rix road as cassian reads nemik’s manifesto? it rains. right before the rix road uprising and in the time of cassian’s return, rain comes onto the desert
Call out to our host Rain, the boy changed my Pluralkit photo to a jar of mayonnaise again and won’t let me change it back. Let me have my face back, nerd boy /lh - Micah
Today's mood:
Doctor Edmund fucking Harley.
So I just found out a good friend of mine died today. She hadn’t even turned 20 yet. She’d just started Uni in the UK as a foreign student when COVID broke out. When she tried to go home she got quarantined at the airport. They sent her back to her flat and told her to stay there. Her flat had already been emptied out (because she was intending to go home). All she had was what was in her bag. The AC/H wasn’t even on. She couldn’t take a bath, but was tired of being filthy. She cleaned her clothes but didn’t wait for them to dry.
She did have COVID, but it was very mild when her family last contacted her. Up until that point she was young and healthy, so it shouldn’t have been anymore than flu-like. Her sister thinks the combination of wet clothes and cold air compromised her immune system further, causing her to catch pneumonia.
But they’ll never know for sure, because she died alone.
A kid with such a bright future, died alone in an empty room in a foreign country.
If she’d just been allowed home, this wouldn’t have happened. A seriously sick person rarely realizes how bad they are and often can’t think clearly enough to know when they need to go to the hospital. She probably didn’t know how sick she was until she was so ill she couldn’t do anything about it.
A friend, a family member, even a friendly neighbor checking on her twice a day would have saved her life. But there was no one there. It was the isolation, the “quarantine”, that killed her. Literally, it was the “preventative measures” used to slow the spread of COVID that killed my friend.
I’m really sad. This all happened a month ago. I only just found out about it because her younger sister remembered she had friends online. As a Discord channel, we were low on the “people to tell” list. We were the last to find out.
My friend, my friend... you didn’t deserve to die like that. If you’d at least died with your family, people who love you, I could bear the grief a bit better. But you were alone. And more than anything, knowing you were alone in your last moments really hurts.
I wish... I wish I could have been there for you. I’m sorry that I wasn’t.
