A cool green plant association with the foliage of Solenostemon (coleus) and the flowers of Nicotiana alata ‘Lime Green’ (tobacco plant). Solenostemon (coleus) is a tender perennial grown for the foliage with insignificant pale blue flower spikes produced in the summer. Nicotiana are grown as annuals and being moth pollinated have flowers which are strongly scented in the evening.

These containers at the Beth Chatto Garden, Essex, UK, were enlivened with the long-flowering half hardy annual Nicotiana alata 'Lime Green' (tobacco plant). The acid-green trumpet flowers will mix with a range of other colours and Nicotiana are moth pollinated, so are fragrant in the evening. The dust-like seeds are sown in a glasshouse in mid spring.

Do you remember my reel about my tobacco plants? 😉 After I have harvested all the leafs I have stored them a couple weeks above the stove to dry them. Today they were dry enough for the next step. I have chopped them and stored them now with microorganisms to start the fermentation process. What’s the first thing you think of when I say Tobacco? Did you know Tobacco is extremely spiritual? In Native American cultures it’s considered extremely rude to inhale this plant. Tobacco is believed to be a master protector and healer as well. In the Amazon tobacco is used to make sacred rapé which I myself have used to heal on a spiritual level. Last night my friend @osokill gifted me with this beautiful tobacco. He grows it on his farm in Mx. He taught me about the history of Tobacco, he explained the process of making cigars straight from the plant, and then showed me how to handle it with respect to keep the tobacco sacred. I use tobacco for medicinal purposes tobacco is know to protect and heal but the Spirit of the Tobacco is not one to play with. I believe that’s why people who inhale tobacco pay a very high price. Back in the Amazon, before the discovery of the Ayahuasca brew there existed a form of plant medicine shamanism with Tobacco at its centre, practiced by Tobacco shamans known as tobaqueros. Among the many myths surrounding the discovery and origins of Ayahuasca is a story that suggests that it was in fact the spirit of this potent jungle tobacco, nicotina rustica (commonly known as Mapacho) that first taught these early tobacco curanderos which plants to combine in order to create the very first Ayahuasca tea. People don’t often realise that tobacco, in high doses, is a visionary medicine in it’s own right, and that the Mapacho used in the Amazon is up to twenty six times stronger than the tobacco we buy commercially in the west.
