Drugs, Destroyed Dresses and Dodgy Dancing...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (15th-19th January 2018)
Poor Courtney Campbell. As if being a disabled first time Mother wasn’t hard enough, she’s got Granny Campbell lurking around every corner just waiting for her to slip up. This week saw Courtney have to endure a visit from a social worker to check how things were going and Granny C surprised Courtney by making herself scarce. Unfortunately for Courtney, Granny C pulled a few tricks before she left and the results made Courtney’s home life look chaotic. With Courtney receiving support from both Leela and Peri, Granny C knew she needed someone else to help her convince social services that Courtney was an unfit Mother. That person was Glenn, who arrived at the flat to find the place looking like a bomb site, Iona crying and Courtney tearing her hair out. He agreed to support Granny C in going for custody, but only on the condition that she and Iona remained in the village. Granny C agreed, but later told Iona that she couldn’t wait to take her back to Edinburgh and show her off to all her friends. Friends? I find it difficult to believe that someone so insufferable has friends!
Meanwhile, Glenn found himself with a problem when a delivery of ‘bricks’ for the school failed to turn up from Dublin. Wanting to help, Grace arranged for Jesse to bring them back on his return from visiting Liam, not realising that the bricks were stuffed full of drugs. Whilst travelling back, Jesse was stopped at customs and later found himself arrested. After questioning, DS Cassidy was satisfied that Jesse hadn’t knowingly smuggled the drugs and released him. Attention soon turned to Glenn, especially after he was beaten up and DS Cassidy arrived at the hospital to speak to him, believing the attack was something to do with the drugs. But, with no evidence, she was forced to leave. Luckily for Glenn, his injuries weren’t serious and he was soon discharged from hospital but DS Cassidy came calling again and told Glenn that she was sure he had something to do with the smuggled drugs and she would be watching him. Glenn shouldn’t worry. We may not have seen too much of DS Cassidy yet, but she’s a police officer in Hollyoaks and they couldn’t find their own backsides with both hands.
Elsewhere, there was one week to go until Luke and Mandy’s wedding but whilst she excitedly prepared, Luke was desperately trying to track down Scarlett, the woman he’s still married to. With every lead he and Darren followed going nowhere, Luke grew ever more desperate and ended up destroying Mandy’s wedding dress in a bid to postpone the wedding. Mandy was understandably devastated when she saw the state her dress was in and she ended up kissing Darren when he tried to comfort her. The following day, Luke and Mandy attempted to patch things up as a social worker visited with a view to returning Ella to their care. Things seemed to be going well until the guilt over what she’d done became too much for Mandy and she ran off. Luckily, she returned just in time to hear the social worker say that she was satisfied with what she’d seen and that Ella could return home that day. Of course for Luke, there was the issue of still being married hanging over him but he insisted to Darren that he no longer cared and that he was going to marry Mandy anyway. Predictably, in true soap fashion, Scarlett chose precisely that moment to turn up in the village. Roll on the wedding!
There was some excellent news for Tom this week when his inheritance came through and he celebrated by test driving a sports car he had no intention of buying. The arrival of Tom’s money was also excellent news for Darcy, who was now finally able to take Toby on the holiday she’d promised him. Guessing Tom’s password, Darcy transferred herself £20,000 but her plans were scuppered when Tom was alerted to the fraudulent activity via his bank. Darcy had to think quickly of a new way to get her hands on the money and the perfect opportunity presented itself when Tom offered to give Mandy the £20,000 deposit needed to buy Nightingale’s. Telling Tom that Mandy had asked for the money in cash, Tom headed to the bank and Darcy was delighted when he came back with the goods. Later that day, Darcy, complete with her money, collected Toby from Adam and excitedly told her son about the holiday they were going on. As she entered the taxi, she was surprised to find Jack and Tom there and as she opened her bag, was left speechless to find nothing but monopoly money...
Also this week, Nancy was unimpressed to see Shane working on the school re-build and tried to get him sacked. Luckily for Shane, Simone was willing to fight his corner and he was able to keep his job. Shane was clearly very taken with Simone and offered to help fix her washing machine for free. However, Shane’s attitude soon changed when he realised that Simone didn’t trust him and as he left her flat, he stole a set of keys and later went back with Hunter, telling his son that Simone had said they could watch a football game on her TV. Simone soon returned and kicked them out, but not before Shane managed to spill beer all over one of her speakers. Shane clearly couldn’t have given less of a shit but Hunter was keen for them to make amends and so offered their cleaning services to Simone. As an extra sorry, Shane was even persuaded to gift Simone a new speaker and the pair enjoyed a little dance together. Seemed to me like Shane was taking the piss but apparently there’s sexual chemistry there...
Finally, Maggie’s family rallied round as they struggled to come to terms with the fact that she was dying. Scott in particular proved to be especially supportive but he was left shocked when Maggie asked him if he would help her to die when the time came. Scott was horrified by his Mother’s request and accused her of using him again. An emotional Maggie broke down and told Scott the story of why she’d given him up. Scott listened as Maggie revealed she’d been working as a prostitute when she fell pregnant and felt like she couldn’t give Scott the life he deserved. This time, it seemed like Maggie was being sincere, and Mother and Son finally made up.
5 Things We Learnt This Week:
1. Simone likes her mayo to be evenly distributed.
2. DS Cassidy has set up a CCTV camera in the village and it’s capturing all sorts of pond life. Let’s see it immediately be forgotten about the next time they want someone to get away with something!
3. Ry Ry’s got a new nickname. It seems he’s known as ‘Knighty’ down the station.
4. Ella had to share a room at her foster parents and she wasn’t pleased about it. No one tell the poor girl that she’ll probably also have to share when she moves in with Mandy and Luke at the Osborne’s...
5. It is essential to take your top off when fixing a washing machine...
