Kay-Gees, The “Master Plan” b/w “Who's The Man (With The Master Plan)” (1974)
A single that lent its’ title to the movie of the same name (Demme, 1993) starring Yo! MTV Raps’ Ed Lover and Doctor Dre, plus a who’s-who of golden era hip-hop. Long Island’s Lover and Dre then released the movie-titled single with King Just, Todd 1, and The Notorious B.I.G on board. Appearing in the movie as card players, House Of Pain also sampled, named, and released their own single after the Kay-Gees single the movie. Another doctor, N.W.A.’s Dr. Dre (not the same person), used it for “A N*gg* Wit’ A Gun” off his legendary solo The Chronic (1992). Hip-hop and jazz-funk efficiency at its’ best. It did pay a pretty penny and raised both The Kay-Gees and Kool & The Gang’s profile, which the Bell family had both hands in.
