Today’s Kokeshi - Togatta Style - Sato Kazuo (佐藤一夫)
Sato Kazuo was born in 1936, and is the winner of three Prime Minister Awards; 1988, 1995, and in 2003. In 2004, he also received the title of Master Artisan for his Togatta style kokeshi.
The artisans of the Togatta style kokeshi live and work in Zao, in the mountains behind Sendai, and not far from the fox village.
I love this kokeshi, because of its happy expression, it just makes you smile and some days you need that.
