I stand with the people of Togo.

Togolese citizens are courageously protesting against a manipulative constitutional reform designed to extend President Faure Gnassingbé’s grip on power. After already ruling for nearly 20 years—and following his father’s brutal 38-year reign—this so-called reform would shift power to parliament, allowing him to bypass term limits and remain in control until 2031.

This is not reform. It’s a regime protecting itself through legal deception.

The people of Togo are demanding real democracy, not dynastic dictatorship. They are tired of repression, corruption, and generations of stolen futures. I stand with their right to protest, to speak, and to decide their own destiny.

Africa does not need more kings in suits. It needs liberation.

Follow Togo Freedom Fighters on Twitter for Updates

So if you follow the lead organizer of the Togo Resistance, @Farida_N on twitter, today she posted that the situation is worsening for protesters. The people are considering armed resistance to overthrow the French’s puppet dictator and his military. I worry for the freedom fighters going this route. Don’t get me wrong, I fully support the people’s right to self defense against an oppressive regime. My worry is that the Togo government along with the aide of France will use the lack of media coverage of the resistance movement, to spin a narrative in their favor. So what can we do as comrades to help? We can help spread their message, information and images of the Uprising to build a solid understanding of the plight of the Togo freedom fighters. Follow Togo organizers on twitter. I have to stress this part since the government there is already cracking down on resistance fighters social media accounts to keep the western world misinformed. Do not underestimate what a simple reblog can do to assist the people of Togo. 

If it wasn’t for social media, many movements and causes in the last couple years would have went unnoticed and forgotten. So let’s use this tool. Even if you post a Togo Uprising post once, if everyone did that and got Togo trending....We could have the eyes of the world turned to Togo overnight which the activists there could use to gain the upper hand in telling the story of the people against a murderous military and repressive government. The Togo Freedom Fighters need our help.

Listening to the podcast Komrades on sound cloud right now to gain a better understanding of the uprisings happening currently across the African continent. Their guest Claude Gatebuke is an activist apart of the collective “African Great Lakes Action Network”. They discuss the void that is left after dictators are overthrown, and influence of capitalism on people's ability to fully change dictatorships, Israeli actions in Palestine, elections in the U.S ,linking up with other movements on the Continent. 

I’m taking this time to listen and learn from experienced freedom fighters on the ground as they navigate the triumphs and hurdles of ongoing revolution.

Thousands of Togolese women march in anti-Gnassingbe protests

Togolese women add their voices to ongoing street protests, calling for president President Faure Gnassingbe to quit. The opposition has held protests since August, calling for an end to five decades of rule by a single political family.
