(personally Id go with bigass Husky, Samoyed, or any size Corgi)
Okay I’ll have you know I just googled “big grey dog” because I know absolutely nothing about dog breeds, but I always imagined Huan to be HUGE (big enough to ride, Celegorm definitely rides around on him, no one can tell me otherwise) and I found he must be an irish wolfshound. They look amazing, I want ten. Like google image them and look at the grey ones, that’s Huan. I love him.
Headcanons about our favourite drama family? Apart from the one where Celegorm rides around on Huan? The boys are all very done with Maglor’s singing, it’s beautiful, but he sings all day, every day and they are just tired, but they will still fight whoever says that Maglor is only the second best musician in Arda, because NO! HE’S THE ABSOLUTE BEST!
Maedhros destroyed every single mirror or reflective thing anywhere near him after Fingon got him back and he was strong enough to do so and also forbit everyone to ever call him Maitimo again. It really shouldn’t matter so much out of all the thngs he’s lost his beauty shouldn’t be such a bg deal, but he hates it and is really bitter and just done.
Feanor is amazing at making jewels and inventing tengwar and making weapons and all kinds of uneccessary stuff, but Nerdanel is amazing and making the most mundane items into an artform. She could make you a spoon and it would be the most perfect and beautiful spoon to ever be created. She could make a chair and you would never want to sit on anything else ever again. That is why Feanor and her work really well together, because Feanor always sees some way to add a little flourish to her things and she always makes sure that Feanor has some actual use for the things he makes. They have arguments over whether “it will look really good” is a good reason on it’s own. She thinks him locking the silmarils aways is the most ridiculous move ever because “your whole thing was that you would look hot wearing them, what are they doing good just locked away?”
The one time she hopes he won’t use the things he makes is when he makes swords.
When Nerdanel’s kids slowly get released from Mandos, she slaps each of them. And then hugs them. And then shouts at them a whole lot.
Glorfindel stays in middle-earth a long time. He doesn’t go with Elrond or Celeborn or Legolas. He eventually shoves Maglor on a ship “go apologize to your mother, you idiot, also Elrond missed you, stop moping and talk to them” but he doesn’t go with them. Instead he stays and protects the human race some longer. Shoves some more elves on boats, who really need to go home and visits Aragorn’s heirs some times, until one time he loses track of time and they have forgotten about him because it’s been generations. Why does he stay? Glorfindel loves middle-earth, loves it with all his heart and, unlike some other people, there’s no one in Valinor who he needs to apologize to. He stayed in Valinor for some time after he got left Mandos and he knows the people he loves there will wait for him. They’ve got time affter all. So he stays until there’s no one left to shove on a boat and then he finally goes himself. And as he sails he really hopes, that Ecthelion will be there when he arrives. The whole reason he went back to middle-earth was that he couldn’t sit around in Valinor just waiting for him. (i love Glorfindel okay, i have a lot of feelings)
Unpopular opinions. Well I never know if my opinions are really unpopular, but here goes. It could be gayer. The whole thing, everything. Come on Tolkien, I know you’re very straight but still. You have so many men, way too many men at least let some of them kiss each other. Also I want more girls. And more girls with names (Eldarion and some daughters? Seriously?)
Okay apart from that…. I like Denethor. I think it isn’t fair that a lot of fanfictions paint him as this horrible abusive asshole. I do believe he favoured Boromir, but my mother favoures my little brother, doesn’t mean she ever abused me. Denethor despaired by the end, but that’s exactly that. The Denethor we actually see in the books is allready falling and he’s still… not a huge asshole. Nowhere near what PJ made him look like (I get why he did it, but honestly PJ wasn’t very nice to that family in general, Boromir was a lot less “i hate Aragorn” in the books)
But yeah…. I love LotR and the Slmarillion. I don’t think they’re absolutely perfect, which is unpopular enough I guess, when I think about some of the guys I’ve talked to in this fandom. Also…. in some instances… I think PJ’s version of events is…. better. Like Aragorn not carrying the shards of Narsil around in the wild. Or Boromir’s death tbh. “my brother, my captain, my king” is just… a perfect line.
Also I kinda still wish he’d gone through with letting Arwen go to Helms Deep, people would have been so mad it would have been funny. And Luthien went and saved her boyfriend, why can’t Arwen do that? Let Arwen do stuff! (seriously Arwen is supposed to be like Luthien, and she’s Galadriel’s granddaughter, let her be badass!)
That’s it for now. This got way too long, but i’m really happy I have time to finally think about this stuff again, exams are exhausting, who needs them anyway, let’s just not.
