Sweltering
Tom Ludlow x Plus Sized!Reader
Summary: The heat's a bitch and so is your air conditioning.
Warnings: Slightly mean Tom (at first), not fully proofread, smuttiness so MINORS DNI!!!
Category: fluff, angst, smut.
You stared at the ceiling fan that was making its lazy rotation just above your bed, barely enough to keep you cool in the summer heat.
Heat so bad that you weren't getting hardly any sleep over the past few days. Two or three hours a night were about all you could manage and that was with waking up every hour in a thick sweat.
You weren't sure what exactly was going on. Maybe the AC had gone out? But that couldn't be the case because even if it was unbearably hot, you were still getting a faint steady flow of air throughout the house.
God this sucked, but you really didn't want to have to call Tom and bother him while he was probably up to his neck in stress. You thought about calling HVAC anyway and just explaining the situation to him later on, but using his credit card for what would probably be a hefty charge without his knowledge also rubbed you the wrong way.
Nope. You'd decided to grin an bare it. After all, how bad could it be? As long as you take cold showers and stay hydrated... God how wrong you were.
As you peeled your body from the sticky soaked sheets after another nearly sleepless night, you'd decided you'd had enough and packed yourself a bag.
Would Tom be upset with you for showing up at his hotel room unannounced? Yes. Would he forgive you after seeing you all sweet smiles and sunbathed in your babydoll top and shorts that you know he loves so much? Probably. Besides, why bother him over the phone when you can just as easily surprise him in person, even if he did tell you not to.
Not that he didn't want you there, but you knew better than anyone how dangerous his job was and he didn't want you anywhere near that if he could help it, hence why he always stayed away from the house during what he would deem the more life and death assignments.
The taxi dropped you off and you had to stop yourself from running to his room. Room number 27 which you knew because he told you.
He always told you exactly where he would be down to the last detail just in case... well... in case something terrible happened.
You swallowed hard as the elevator came to a stop at his floor. You knew he'd be mad and you couldn't stand when he was angry with you, but you couldn't stand another day in that hell.
You also knew that it was an issue that could've been resolved with a simple phone call which is what he probably would've preferred, but your heart betrayed your logic. Well... that and the boiling heat. At least that's how you decided to justify your decision.
After what felt like an eternity of you standing outside his door, debating on whether you should actually go through with it or go home as your anxious heart hammered in your chest, your shaking hand finally delivered a soft knock on the solid, ivory wood.
In no time at all, the door was pulled open, revealing Tom in that sinful, blue, on-duty polo. But just as soon as your eyes were blessed, they were simultaneously cursed with the sharp cut of his dark eyes and deep, breathy sigh that told you everything you needed to know about the mood seeing you there put him in.
"Y/n... what the hell do you think you're doing here?," he asked through his teeth. You could tell by the way his fingers were clutching the knob that he was trying to keep his temper in check.
He really hated being upset with you, and truthfully he almost never was, but this? This was your life. Even if there's no apparent danger now, that rarely means anything when you're a cop.
Another giant lump grew in your throat as you gave him a nervous smile.
He did not smile back despite the fact that he really wanted too. I mean, here you were, his own personal ray of sunshine cutting through the dark stormy violence and red vicera of his day to day.
"I uhh..." You rubbed the back of your neck trying to get your brain to start back up again so you could form a coherent sentence. Tom Ludlow would absolutely never lay a hand on you, but you still couldn't help but shrink back at his commanding presence.
You did have to admit, he was rather sexy when he was angry and half the time your body couldn't decide wether it was scared or turned on. Right now though? Nope... come to think of it, now was no different.
"You what? Get inside right now," he commanded and you obeyed quickly as he snatched your duffle from the hallway and followed behind you, shutting the door.
"The AC is broken at the house. It was so hot and I couldn't sleep and..."
Tom came up behind you and pulled your back flush with his chest, making you yelp in surprise.
"Oh yeah? And you came all the way out here instead of calling to have it fixed because?" He practically growled in your ear making you tremble slightly.
"I... I..." you tried to say, but his fingers pressing into the plush of your waist and his hot breath on your neck chased away any thoughts you previously had.
It was short lived though, as he moved the two of you over to the couch and dropped you down on it's cushions with a plop.
He sighed yet again as his large hand ran thick fingers through his hair and took out his cell.
As he talked to someone on the other end about coming out to fix the air while slipping into a more comfortable change of clothes that consisted of a pair of jeans and a brown t-shirt that squeezed his biceps just right, you got back up from the couch an took it upon yourself to mosey around the room. You ended up collecting and disposing of at least ten empty mini liquor bottles and picking up discarded pieces of clothing, placing them all in a neat pile in one of the corners.
He snapped his phone shut and turned back to you, his eyes less cold this time.
"Alright, they'll be out between two and seven tomorrow... you'll need to be there when they arrive."
Ah yes. The dreaded time window.
You had just finished placing the last shirt into the hill of clothing before making your way back over to Tom who had his back against the bar that separated the small kitchen area from the modest living/sleeping space with his arms crossed over his chest.
"But until then...?" You questioned in a saccherine tone, tracing your fingers over his broad chest.
Finally a smile broke through his rough outer shell and he caught both of your smaller hands in his much bigger ones.
He leaned down to you and his lips nearly ghosted over yours, letting out a deep chuckle.
"Yes, you can stay," he told you before pulling you into a gentle kiss that held the slightest bit of heat to it.
He pulled away and you gave his bottom lip a small lick before purring up at him.
"Make me a drink?"
Now that he was seemingly devoid of any anger, you felt more at ease and had gained at least some of your confidence back.
His right hand gave the fat of your ass a firm squeeze before he slipped off to the kitchen.
"This was your plan all along wasn't it? Coming over here, wearing that tight little outfit? Showing all your curves off to me cause you knew I'd give in?" He retorted as he grabbed a bottle of tequila and began making you your favorite spicy margarita.
You slinked behind the little bar and came up behind him, wrapping your arms around him tightly, almost as if you're afraid he might disappear, or more like if you leave tomorrow morning you might never see him again.
Of course he could feel it. He felt it in the way your fingers shook against the hard muscle of his torso and how your breathing was off as if you were crying.
He halted his movements, placing the shaker down on the table and turning around in your arms, pulling you into his strong, warm embrace.
"Baby, why are you crying? Hmm?" He cooed down at you as he rubbed you back tenderly.
Your eyes, wet from fresh tears looked up into his deep brown ones that were now soft and cozy like a hand woven blanket or a fresh brewed cup of coffee.
"I'm just scared Tom... I'm always scared. I love you so much and everytime we say goodbye I'm afraid it'll be the last time. When I leave you tomorrow... I just never kno-"
He cut you off with a finger to your lips and a kiss placed delicately on your jaw.
"Shh. Stop listening to that head of yours for once. You know it never tells the truth. I'm fine baby. Always am. You know that." He tangled his fingers in your silky smooth locks as his thumb rubbed circles into your scalp. "I'm not stupid sweetheart. I know that's the real reason you came here today." He still couldn't say he was all that pleased, but he had to admit having you in his arms right now after missing you over the passed few weeks had him quickly forgetting even being mad in the first place. "You've gotta trust that I'll always come back to you baby. Even if both my legs are broken and I have to crawl."
You knew he was right and you gave him a small nod before letting him go and letting him finish making your drink. He made one for himself too. Made being a very strong word. More like he poured some tequila over ice and called it a "cocktail."
You both were enjoying your drinks and each others half drunk stolen kisses when you noticed a record player sitting on a shelf by the window. After some investigating you discovered a Perry Como record nestled snugly under the needle. All it was waiting for was someone to actually play the damn thing. Good thing you just so happened to be there, huh?
The fun upbeat melody of 'Papa Loves Mambo' drifted through the hotel room and you had already discarded your drink on the end table and were yanking Tom's partially inebriated body up from the stool he was occupying and onto the floor trying to get him to dance with you.
Much to your surprise, it really wasn't much of a fight. He gave in rather easily and took your hands in his as you both moved your feet to the rhythm of the song. Both laughing with one another out of pure delight and enjoyment.
You counted yourself blessed that you were allowed to indulge in this side of him. Not everyone got the opportunity to see that he wasn't all sharp corners and coarse grit.
There was this Tom. The Tom that danced with you and made you margaritas. That called the air conditioning people for you and held you when you cried. You know he'd kill for you. Know he'd die for you.
That last thought was swiftly swatted from your mind as he swung you away from him then underneath his arm, twirling you around before catching you.
With your back against him, he pulled the both of you down onto the fluffy, white rug pinning your hands above your head as he trailed hot kisses down your neck illiciting a quiet whimper from you.
"Don't worry baby. I'll make the rest of your evening with me unforgettable," he said as he scooped you up and hauled to over to the bed.
God damn how strong he was.
As he carried you effortlessly and tossed you onto the bed, you were thanking the heavens for his police training.
His toned body was back on yours before you had time to blink and it wasn't long before the bed was a mess of discarded wrinkled clothes and filthy moans.
Tom really had a way of pleasuring you until your mind was blank and empty of any insecurity you ever had about yourself.
The many praises his gruff voice spilled into your ear were also most certainly helpful in that regard.
And in the midst of your too hot for words love making all you could think about was how this man was all Authority. All L.A.P.D. his way or the high way. Officer 'I don't give a fuck what you say' Ludlow. It only served to bring you to your peak quicker and more violently than ever which you knew he'd be all smug about later, but for now you were too blissed out on him to care.
Shortly after, it was Tom's turn and he sank his teeth into your collarbone, making you yelp as he groaned at the height of his own pleasure.
He collapsed on top of you with a breathless groan then rolled over, pulling you to his chest and kissing your forehead lovingly.
"Told you so," he said with a smirk that would rival the cockiness of the president himself.
You chuckled softly, tracing a line from his chest down to his waist.
"When you're right, you're right."
