“The House Across the Lake” is a wild ride from start to finish!

Sager is the master of misdirection. Several times throughout the book I thought I had solved the mystery only for the rug to be pulled out right from under me. The breadcrumbs I followed that I thought led to the murderer’s true identity in reality led to nowhere, Sager cleverly throwing me off track.

Additionally, I appreciated Sager’s organization of the novel’s timeline. The reader jumps back and forth between the “before” and the “now,” thrown off guard by the jaw-dropping revelations about Casey’s past and the cliffhangers that deepened the mystery.

Though “The House Across the Lake” is primarily a mystery, its paranormal elements make it unique. At the same time, those elements made it a bit difficult for me to remain immersed in the storyline. In general, I have trouble embracing the absurd, but I appreciate “The House Across the Lake” for pushing me outside my comfort zone. It is for that reason that I look forward to reading more of Sager’s backlist to get my mystery-thriller fix!

If your character had to act in a play what role would they think they’d best perform?

Ok I'm not sure what "classic" roles in plays are, I mean it depends. BUT. He would play really good the weird single mom (just put a wig on him and clothes and you're done. idk he just has it in himself deep down. Yeah his gender is fucked up, how could you tell?)

Is there a fear your character wants to learn to overcome?

Tom fucking hates swimming, I've never mentioned this. why? I just came up with this. he's not scared of water but he did fell off a not very high cliff near the sea when he was little and they forced him to swim with the other children and dive. Because of that he doesn't like heights. He wouldn't out an effort to overcome any of his fears, because he's lazy and it's pointless in his view, like most things.

Is your character more prone to fight or flight?

He'd rather flight, avoid the fighting, he's never been the best at speaking with people. By only seeing his parents fighting all the time but never resolving it all by talking and only when his father left they were better he thought arguing and talking was pointless only by going away for a little bit it all would've been fixed!! wow!!! that's fucked up!! yay!

Food and Drink #10 (I'm extremely curious to know what Tom would answer BUT I'm also very VERY interested in hearing Nora's answer, too. Like, I'm assuming it's definitely something Tom cooked for her, since he was basically the only parental figure, but idk... I'll let Nora answer it)

What is a childhood meal your character cherishes?

When they were kids and their parents weren't home for the cooking in the first years Tom didn't know how to cook a lot but eventually learnt and the thing he made every morning that Nora adored were Banana Pancakes, she loved them so much that she could eat them at anytime in the day.

Another childhood food would be mac and cheese, in her child eye Tom was the best cook in the world and deserved an award (he burnt everything)

for Tom it would be something french since when he was around 4 he spent a month in France with only his grandmother (I just came up with this bit of lore)
