Oh to live in an alternate reality where the dead poets society short movie sequel was actually made and we got to see a grown up Todd Anderson being a teacher using all the knowledge he got from his experiences at Welton while having scenes where he remembers Neil so fondly and all he meant for him while hopefully meeting again with the rest of the boys and perhaps even Mr Keating one more time

Tom Schulman, please, make a novel with the idea you had going on for the sequel and my life will be eternally yours

I've only watched two of Peter Weir's films (Dead Poets Society and The Truman Show) I'm watching Truman show rn and I just realized how similar the protagonist (Truman) and the antagonist (Christof) look to Neil and Mr Perry.

some different things I learnt from the original script of the Dead Poets Society by Tom Schulman for the first time

Mr. Keating is so Brat coded

Todd is sassier? Angrier? Idk he definitely isn't that awkward as he's shown in the movie just really sad or frustrated most of the time (relatable boi-)

The boys swear. Like, a lot. Especially Neil. Sad most of the swearings were cut off in the movie :(

There are more poetry mentioned, really nice.

Keating is Todd's personal bully. As an introverted person myself I would have hated Keating irl not gonna lie, but he's a nice person and he has his reasons so I forgive him.

Neil is so dramatic. Also very Impulsive. And also very Hotheaded.

Knox is so fucking creepy I can't even-

McAllister definitely has homoerotic desires for Keating and I stand by my word

Meeks is definitely gay- or Aro. He's cute.

The metaphors for sex and orgasms are crazy

Neil is a supportive bf

More mentions of Todd's parents, and how Todd is very aggressive about that topic

Charlie is a goddamn menace, but dorkier than the movie

Surprisingly, I hate Cameron even more now.

Charlie treats Cameron worse than the movies, though Cameron snaps back at him more in the scripts

Pitts and Charlie's chemistry is cuter than I thought

Mr. Perry and Nolan can rot and die

Todd doesn't sign the papers to fire Keating (not really mentioned in the movies if he did or not, though.)

Well this are the things I noticed that are a little different from the movie and the script, I did read them partly before but I finally finished them today and I'll just.. Cry on the floor... Like Todd..

Though I loved most of it, I liked how the movie explained some parts a little more detailed, just wished some scenes made it in the movies too.. And the boys feel a little more alive- Like real guys around their age, puberty and creepy has a thin line between them

But seriously, I thought movie Knox was a creepy lil boy, but the original Knox gives me a little hard time to love him.

just thinking about tom schulman saying that the camera shots at the beginning and end of every scene were carefully thought out to convey the message and emotions of the film and how after the scene in the snow, it cuts to mr keating who walks from his desk to neil’s. it’s a perspective of the classroom that we haven’t really scene before that moment. it’s from the desk, low down so that we are level with the desks and where the students would’ve sat. it’s allowing us to have a personal moment with keating in the aftermath where we can just sit and feel. keating slowly walks over to neil’s desk and we just watch. i’m not exactly sure what i think about this or what it means, but my impression is that we are watching keating believe that he is the cause of this, that he is watching the consequences of his teaching and ideas. for example, why is this in a classroom, why from this angle, why is the lighting so dark, theres so many variable to each scene and this is what they decided to film. also, tom and peter wanted to convey that mr keating blamed himself and was broken by this, and they hadn’t intended to shoot or include the scene where mr perry blames mr keating. so this scene can be read any way. it’s just so emotional and quiet, like a voice losing its power and wilting away. and each shot of keating after, he’s so quite and doesn’t really say anything. what’s worse than anger is defeat and sadness. it conveys the loss so well.
