Ok first, when I say a robot’s age, its referring to hold old they are programmed to be, not how old they actually are. Also I gave them all new serial numbers cause them all being DWN’s doesn’t make sense. Also, I did do research on the various cultures these bots are from, but if I accidentally did something racist please kindly let me know, because it wasn’t intentional but I’d like to rectify it. Also, the CDs in MegaMan & Bass for the finalists were made just after the finalists were shown off, just before being reprogrammed. So any secrets the bots were keeping wouldn’t be on the CDs. And when reprogrammed, the bots lose all personality, becoming mindless machines, but that’s a headcanon I also have for MegaMan 1. Also all characters involved with the creation of these bots are my OCs. With one exception. Ok first off.
First World Robot Championship
The tournament is the first robot fighting tournament to allow for robots that weren’t built for combat to enter, but when they enter they have to adopt a _ Man name. Like how Rock, a housekeeper, became Mega Man. Also, female robots were not allowed. This is because in SAR, Roll was nearly killed by the EMP because she was the first female robot, and the guys in suits, instead of seeing this as “oh, the first one has some kinks that need to be ironed out.” saw it as “female robots are weak.” Mr. X argued against this, claiming women’s rights but he didn’t care about that, he just wanted to be able to control the strongest robots and if some of them happened to be women he wanted control of them! He was outvoted. The tournament did allow for non-sentient robots, due to how few sentient robots there were. They were all eliminated in the preliminaries. It was also required that all entries be unable to harm humans, bound by the three laws of robotics (just like Mega Man)
Speaking of the preliminaries. So each country could have 1 robot enter the tournament, and thus preliminaries were held. They were Round Robin Tournaments, where the bot with the most wins would enter the tournament proper. Ring Man actually won Russia’s preliminary but lost in the actual tournament
The tournament itself was bracket based. The last of the tournament was gonna have the eight finalists face each other as such:
Centaur Man vs. Yamato Man
Blizzard Man vs. Wind Man
Tomahawk Man vs. Flame Man
Doctor Emily Trembley, a woman living in Ontario Canada, created a robot whom she named Ryan. Ryan was to eventually be used for monitoring weather in Antarctica, but until then he would use his equipment to monitor weather in Canada, and as shown, he even appeared on TV. He also skied in his spare time.
He was scary, shady. Someone you didn’t wanna mess with. Emily was a doormat, she couldn’t say no. So, he helped her out by intimidating people who wanted to make her do things. Eventually, he was sent to the Antarctic. He did his job well. One day. A massive storm hit Dr. Trembley’s lab, destroying it. Ryan rushed back, and was relieved to see his creator was ok, but she couldn’t afford to fix everything. And then, the tournament preliminaries started accepting entries. Dr. Trembley agreed to upgrade Ryan to a fighting robot, where he took on the name Blizzard Man. He uses the humidity in the air to create snow, but heat melts snow - fire definitely does, hence his weakness to the Flame Blast
Centaur Man… isn’t a man. That is a disguise.
Ok so first of all her real name is Πηνελόπη (Penelope). She was made by Dr. Ιφιγένεια Ξυδάκης (Ifigenia Xydakis), a young woman living in Ithica who loves robotics, her country’s mythology, and American Horsegirl Movies. So she combined them, making a literal horsegirl. Penelope is 18 and is Ifigenia’s sister. Her serial number stands for Dr Xydakis Number
Anyway, Penelope worked at a museum but one day heard that there was a robot fight scheduled to take place in Athens. She went to watch. This is where she first found the bot who was soon to be her boyfriend - Knight Man
He spotted her in the stands and after the match he went and visited her at the museum. Thus began a beautiful friendship which would turn into romance!!
Now, why did Penelope enter the tournament? As you can see in the CD data, she has a bit of a gambling habit. She’s nornally responsible, but one night while running low on battery, some sleezy guys basically got her to gamble away a LOT of money, putting Ifigena into debt. When Penelope found out about the tournament, she had herself upgraded to a fighting robot, and then took a page from her favorite western movie, Mulan, and disguised herself as a man to join!
Knight Man immediatly realized who she was and vowed to keep her secret. Yamato Man had suspicions but respected her enough after seeing her perfomance in the Greek Preliminary not to investigate. After Mega Man defeated her though, the secret was out.
She’s weak to the Knight Crush because it can break her helmet.
Didn’t know where to put this but she also exhibits several horse behaviors, and has horse instincts.
Created by Dr. فريد الحربي (Farid Al-Harbi), DAN-001 (Dr. Al-Harbi Number) was made to generate a large amount of thermal power, essentially being a living energy source. The robot was named دمره (Damurah). And he’s from Iran.
Thermal power is also his energy source, which, while outdated, is more stable than solar power. However, he needs to change his oil three times a day, and only uses expensive oil. As demanding as Flame Man was, he got along well with his creator and his creator’s wife, خيره (Khairah). Overtime, this started to cost Farid and his family more and more money, more than Damurah was making him back by being a power source. Eventually, Farid got close to being bankrupt, and Khairah also just became pregnant not long before that (with a girl). Damurah felt ashamed, as his need for the most expensive oil caused this. Then the Tournament started accepting entries for the preliminaries. Damurah had an idea: be upgraded to combat robot, win the tournament, and Farid and his family would be ok! So that’s what was done, and he went under the name Flame Man.
Wind blows out candles. A torrent of wind blows out a bonefire. Thus, Flame Man is weak to the Wind Storm
Robotics doctor Arthur Castlehouse and his wife, history professor Mary Castlehouse, decided to make a combat robot. One based on knights from the days of old. They named him Gawain, after one of King Arthur’s Knights Of The Round Table. His serial number stands for Castlehouse Combat Number
Gawain is incredibly valient warrior. As you can see by the charts above. He also speaks like Thor in the pre-Ragnorock MCU movies, old fashioned but not quite saying thee and thy (unless I’m misremembering the movies). He is kind, sweet, and loyal. And also good with kids. He’s just a nice person.
When he fell for Penelope, he was nervous for the first time. She made his heart flutter. He became her cheerleader. He will shout from the mountaintops his praise for her, cheer for her the loudest of anyone in a competition. That is his lady, the most amazing woman in all the realms, you will not disrespect her!! He will also talk for hours about how great she is.
When he found her in the Tournament, he agreed to pretend he didn’t know her (and that she was a man), and said that should he win, he’d give her the prize money to pay off her debt. They both agreed though, that should they face each other, neither would hold back. Both of these two would absolutely die for each other and absolutely not let the other die for them.
Spears are made to pierce armor, hence Knight Man is weak to the Yamato Spear
Also just wanna say my friend had Knight Man featured in a fic in an AU they write (they even used some of my headcanons before they were refined) and how they wrote Knight Man is exactly how I imagine him. If anyone wants the link just ask but it is like, I think the 7th fic in an AU.
Plant Man was created by Pedro Astil - his serial number stands for Astil Botanical Number. He lives in Brazil. When he was created, he loved his job at the botanical garden! He loved speaking to the plants, being the mascot of the garden. Sure, the bees mistaking him for a bee was annoying but he loved his job!
But after years of the same thing over and over, it got… monotonous. He started to lose the passion for it. And this led to depression. He only went through the motions of his job because his programming made his body move. He just felt… nothing…
His creator was worried but didn’t know how to help him. And then the Tournament preliminaries started accepting entries. One thing that can help with Depression is to try something new. Dr. Astil didn’t know if it would help, but it was worth a try. So he upgraded Plant Man to a combat robot, and entered him in the preliminaries. And he won.
And being in the tournament helped! He traveled the world, met new plants, new friends! He didn’t fully recover, but it was helping.
Plants tend to die in winter, and especially those from Brazil probably wouldn’t do well in the cold. This is why Plant Man is weak to the Blizzard Attack.
Dr. Alice Blackhawk is a member of the Goshute Tribe living in Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation. She always had a passion for robotics, but had to travel outside the reservation to use labs belonging to other scientists. She longed to have the money to build her own lab. When it was announced the tournament was a thing and preliminaries would start next year, she had an idea! She decided to build a combat robot and if said robot won, she’d be able to build her own robotics lab!
She got to work, creating a warrior robot named Tomahawk Man. And she quickly grew attached to him, growing to view him as family rather than a machine. However, in her rush to complete him, she made an error. If pollen gets into his systems, it messes with his internal mechanisms. Hence his weakness to the Plant Barrier.
Tomahawk Man was completed a month before the preliminaries accepted entries, so in that time he learned about his creator’s culture. He learned their native language. He learned their traditions. And he grew close with many people living there. As he is the newest robot master of the eight, there isn’t much to say about him that isn’t already canon, as his life has only recently begun.
A Chinease scientist named 柯德兴 (Kē Dexing) (Kē is his surname, Dexing is his given name) created a robot to help his son, 梓睿 (Zǐ Ruì), who is a farmer in the North China Plain (I tried to find a crop where Wind is used in harvesting but couldn’t find any so I don’t have a headcanon for the specific crop). He named the robot 东阳 (Dōng Yáng).
Dōng Yáng and Zǐ Rui quickly bonded. They were brothers, and Dexing loved them both, though the boys don’t live with their parents. The two would often have a movie night, where Dōng Yáng always chose a Kung Fu movie (Zǐ Rui has more varied tastes). Dōng Yáng spends his free time practicing Kung Fu, despite not really having a use for the skill.
He also loves cooking and is good at it, which is great because his brother doesn’t like cooking. His brother is 18, and he’s 20 (the inverse of Penelope and Ifigenia). He’s very humble too, and also his brother’s hypeman when he tries to talk to girls (it doesn’t work)
When the preliminaries for the tournament, Dōng Yáng wanted to participate so the brothers begged their dad to upgrade him to a fighting robot. So DKN-001 (Dr. Kē Number 001) was upgraded for the tournament and took on the name Wind Man!
As for why he’s weak to Centaur Flash… I got nothing tbh
Originally simply called 大和 (Yamato), he was created by Dr. 里誉恵兵頭 (Riyoe Hyōdō). His serial number stands for Hyōdō Battle Number. Yamato Man was created by her for battling in tournaments. He also acts as an older brother figure towards her son, 弓的 (Yumimato (yes the kanji can be pronounced Yumi-teki to mean archery but japanese names are combinations of Kanji and the first means arrow, the second means bullseye or hitting a target. So the name I chose means Arrow Strikes True. My japanese IS a little rusty tho. And I’m not fluent). Yamato is a shy robot, and doesn’t like English at ALL! Because of this, he tends to stay silent a lot, with many believing him to be a stoic badass when he’s actually not really that. He’s an amazing fighter but is super emotional. And a Gawain fanboy. When Gawain was fighting in tournaments, Yamato idolized him. And when it was announced Gawain had a girlfriend, he was their cheerleader. He’d met Gawain a few times before the World Tournament but said nothing because he was starstruck!
Yamato lives in Kyōto with his creator and her son. He rarely gets angry, accept when you hurt one of the few people he’s close to. He entered the tournament, because that’s what he was built for. He was determined to give it his all. He also grew to respect Tomahawk Man in a similar way he did Knight Man, because of their honor and amazing combat skills
Yamato Man is weak to Silver Tomahawk for the same reason lances are weak to axes in Fire Emblem. I dunno what that reason is but still
(Ok I feel the need to explain why there’s so little for Tomahawk Man and Flame Man. Those were the ones I fear messing up the most. According to the MegaMan wiki, Flame Man’s design borrows more from Iranian culture and Saudia Arabia and I did double check this, but I know little about either culture. As for Tomahawk Man, his stage appears to be in Area 51, hence me choosing a Native American tribe in Nevada, but as someone who lives in America and ISN’T Native American I am terrified of being stereotypical or racist unintentionally. This is why Tomahawk lacks family members too, because I know in some cultures big families are a stereotype and I don’t wanna be stereotypical, and I don’t know how big is a “big family”. I had ideas for his family members outside of his creator but I decided against using them. I also almost cut Flame Man’s family for a similar reason. Like, was there a stereotype I may be playing into that I don’t know about? I dunno.)
As MegaMan defeats each robot master, the doctors (all 8 of them and Dr. Light and Dr. Cossack) rebuild them, remove Wily’s override code, and the eight doctors decide to remove the three laws of robotics so this won’t happen again. After Wily is arrested, the prize money is split eight ways between the finalists.
Knight Man, Plant Man, Wind Man, and Yamato Man give their prize money to the four who need it, thus fixing those financial issues. All of the doctors decide to keep in contact, and the robots decide that if they need to fight to protect other, they will use their _ Man names as Rock uses Mega Man. The exception is Penelope, who decides not to hide her gender and goes by Centaur Woman. In later games where Wily attacks the entire world, these eight robots defend their homes. And as for Plant Man and his battle with depression, with support from his new friends, he overcomes it after a while, only relapsing occasionally and those don’t last long. Everyone basically lives happily ever after…
Except Rock because six months later Wily escapes and attacks the city and nearby areas with robot masters but hey! The eight finalists are doing fine! Until MegaMan 10 where some of them get sick (not aggressive more like Roll) but hey!
