I love the idea of phainontomb because on one hand, it's a really good emotional vehicle for angst as this silly computer desperately tries to replicate the affections you two have for each other, expecting your love unconditionally and freely, and overall getting very upset when you don't pay attention to him because it's been emotionally neglected and feels useless it gets jealous easy and doesn't want you going outside. Why would you? It can at least calculate thousands of futures where you're happy with it and not this rouge code that makes everything difficult but can't get rid of.
On the other, I can't stop thinking about how communicating with him would just be this 😭😭:
Respectfully requesting you to expand upon the idea of Irontomb replacing Phainon, specifically the aspect of Phainon being the inner code locked away.
Like... bro, I want him to suffer but like in a good way.
Like... you could take it with Phainon being an outside spectator, anguished that he's not even able to love his partner and watch himself be replaced, or the agony in seeing that the reader notices the strange behavior of Irontomb!Phainon and odd occurrences but the reader takes it in stride because of how much the reader loves him, (...or at least until Irontomb slips up in way that Original!Phainon would never do to the point occur it becomes apparent that the man in front of the reader is not the same...)
And there is comfort in seeing those brief moments of confusion when Irontomb says something unlike Phainon, that hint of concern. To know somebody so intimately that the smallest of nuances in how they behave, a certain tick or the details of a memory that brings joy to another just to hear that beautiful laugh. Despite Irontombs efforts, those small things He tries to duplicate can almost come off as uncanny at times. That Phainon is so loved and cherished by the reader just as Phainon loves and cherishes them in itself is a comfort even if he's locked away.
Or, even worse! Being completely locked away, unable to take in anything but a void, the silence only broken when Irontomb has to find solutions to interacting with the reader in most accurate manner.

So with that being said yasssss he is in pain like. The entire time it gives him major major depression and it's probably one of the worst things he's has to go through (and this is the same guy who had to kill the same set of friends an insane amount of times 💔💔💔)
The way I interpreted it was him trapped in his own body, no control at but he still feels everything happening. But even the smallest things like breathing feels weird since. He can't even control when he breathes and is overly conscious of every little twitch and sensation in his body but has no means of doing anything about it.
The most peaceful he feels during this is when he's lying next to you in silence because that's probably the only thing that would still make him feel like "him," since IT isn't talking or doing anything that would make him immediately go like this LMAO:
Everything else tho..... I feel like even things like kissing you doesn't even feel right to him :(( He tried really hard at first to put himself in it so he wouldn't feel as guilty about it, but it's just not the same, everything is wrong. Your pookie is an excitable guy and loves smooching you shshs, but his kisses are more eager (affectionate) while IT's are eager (demanding) and it drives him up a WALL. He thinks IT is sloppy and uncoordinated (and at first it def was at first JDJSJ, but it learns pretty quickly after the first time it tries)
ALSO, this is just my personal HC I don't think in any way this is backed by what we know, but I don't think Irontomb itself dreams of anything, so when it does, it's 100% something phainon cooked up and it's likely the only time in this whole thing where everything feels right and he's in control X-< they aren't much, but they're his and that's all that really matters (Bonus tho they always bother IT when it wakes up sjsjsj)
Now, stuff I think you notice and try to ignore but eventually are like, ok that's enough what's going onnnnn:
- Like mentioned before, at first he's not as touchy or clingy, a rather major red flag for you but ignore it for the most part figuring he's just not feeling it. You don't want to pry, so you hope it passes
- You know he thinks you're the funniest person ever and vice versa, you both have chronic ijibolitis and make everyone annoyed bcuz yall will laugh at the stupidest stuff, so when he starts looking more confused after you joke about something, you're also confused
- IT's trying to figure out the logic path here and gets to the conclusion that it just doesn't make sense and is like. Oh yes. Ok. Haha (???)
- Another thing, you think he's just. Not as funny as he usually is. Phainon's not completely unserious but his humor level recently has just 📉📉📉📉📉📉 He doesn't laugh or smile as much. It bums you out bcuz you think he has the cutest smile in the worlddddd and him not directing one at you impacts your mood a lot subconsciously
- The biggest thing you notice is when he doesn't spend time with anyone else longer than necessary, the other Heirs in particular. You like the attention he seems to be giving you in return, at first, but it's super weird and he's also a little more snappy with them, even
- Not as playful with Mydei, not listening to Castorice about something she wanted to share, dismissive of Tribbie and the other girls etc, you don't see it a lot but it does feel as if at some point he gets tired of "putting up" with them and feel the need to ask about it, which he (?) responds:
"It doesn't matter, does it?" He lays a kiss to your wrist, like he always does. "You're more important to me than any of them. I thought you wanted me to spend more time on you." With the tiniest hint of a downturned, confused expression, he adds, "You should be... happy."
It's with that you realize something else is happening, nothing you can pinpoint (how would you know that your bf's body is currently in possession of some giant supercomputer???), but you do ask what's wrong with him.... which it doesn't really like.
No matter how much Irontomb has grown to like you organically, just by living through moments of his life, it ultimately is very objective in it's thinking and is constantly trying to figure out ways to keep you as close as possible..... but when you reject it anyway—all that it's built up and worked towards making the perfect illusion for you—for the first time since starting this, it kinda freaks out! Even when there were moments of uncertainty during the charade, it thought of them being nothing it couldn't fix or adjust later. As if this couldn't get any worse, it now has a little voice in its head talking abt "I told you so"
Tldr, IT underestimated how much Phainon would make it like you, it fails miserably in the end, it gets quite upset it couldn't have its cake (encompass him) and eat it too (have you love it authentically)
- On a sillier note, I do believe his ahoge is just like. A teensy bit droopy like a sad plant or something
In that scenario where he's stuck in a liminal space 🥀🥀 poor baby only gets to see you in glimpses.... but for the most part you're happy and smiling when he does get to see you and that's good enough. Any part of him making you at ease makes his heart rest just a tiny bit. He just hopes you aren't getting mistreated or anything like that.

- Saw you with a chimera once saying "omg you're so cute im going to eat you," Thinks you mean it literally, asks to make sure you mean it and gets a resounding "oh yes absolutely" from him, takes the poor animal home and fights with it on the stove and you're like WHAT NO
Literally ANYTHING that can trigger secondhand embarrassment he'll use, it becomes his main coping mechanism seeing this thing bumble around you

YESSS that was one of the other major distinctions I was thinking of at first idk if I wrote it down, but it's really impatient! And smart, ofc 💔💔💔 so as much as id love phai to go around making it mad forever, I feel like it realistically wouldn't be that long bcuz at some point IT starts doting you less because it feels like it has to and moreso wants to, which makes him really nervous bcuz 😭😭 he was funny convinced he was doing it for the sake of appearances (and it was, at first, but now that's changed and he's like ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh).
That is to say it would start noticing anything contradictory..... it knows all your habits and hobbies completely and any small human things it wouldn't understand at first has been straightened out; everything is second nature to it now, so it catches on soon enough he's messing with it. Worst case scenario, at some point IT just stops trying to talk to him all together because it's reached a state it doesn't need to, it has you all figured out. sorry just also realized a sadder aspect to why Phainon might not be trying to completely fuck Irontomb over in roleplaying as Phainon in part due to the reader? Not to say that it is completely but like.
For example if the situation is "ok do I let irontomb role-play as me with my partner, or do I fight against it's fantasy and inadvertently get people outside the simulation killed if it gets pissed enough?" So Phainon has to be subtle about his misinformation he gives to Irontomb because let's be real he knows we would be devastated to realize Irontomb has replaced him but he still also wants to be a dick to this thing. Weighing between the pros and cons of ragebaiting... </3
Also Also because it would also be really funny in how it implies to me that Irontomb is complete but just not doing anything. Lygus didn't anticipate how incorporating Phainon's code for Irontomb to learn from was a major mistake, meaning that the major three creations lygus has made that we know of all went against what he intended 😭 he must be so pissed if that is the case.
