I think us bisexual women having our own identities is a good thing.
Tomme/Stag is a bisexual identity where a woman rejects the societal expectations of femininity and womanhood.
Damme/Doe is a bisexual identity where a woman accepts or subverts the societal expectations of femininity and womanhood.
These identities relate to a woman's relationship with men and other women, unique to her bisexuality. It isn't just about gender expression or aesthetics. It is about expression, but it's also about our experiences with womanhood, femininity, lifestyle, social livelihood, community, and our romantic and sexual experiences with both men and women.
I think us bisexual women should have separate identities from butch and femme, simply because our experience is distinct from a lesbian's. Regardless of whether or not butch-femme was inclusive to bisexual women back in the day, we're not living in the past anymore. We have evolved and moved forward. Bisexuality is a real and recognized sexual orientation now, and has a completely different experience from lesbianism. We recognize this in the current modern day 21st century. It's just the truth.
Now, this is only MY PERSONAL OPINION!!! I choose to use tomme/stag since it wouldn't only describe my relationship dynamic with other women, but with men as well, and a lesbian can not ever know what that is like. Just like I can never know the experience of a butch. My rejection of femininity and unique experience of womanhood as a tomme affects any romantic relationship I would be in with a man or woman.
Whether or not other bisexual women would identify as damme/doe or tomme/stag isn't up to me, but I think these identities don't get the love they deserve. We could seriously do great things with them.
