🖋 the first indication she had a propensity for violence that wasn't directed at herself was when she shot a notoriously exploitative instructor with an arrow at her boarding school in vermont after archery class ( a practice arrow, lawrence was quick to point out to the board ). the talk from that one was a nightmare to stem, particularly since lyra insisted loudly and often that he'd deserved it; no, she would not shut up about it, so what if he reverses his agreement not to press charges, why shouldn't he press charges, she did it, didn't she? what the hell did lawrence give him, anyway?

🖋 while she retains the majority of her wardrobe from her old life — or, rather, what of it was packed in her car when she arrived in the county, which, given that she had not intended to return to san francisco, was most of it — for the purposes of upkeeping the appearances of a civilian with the locals, she locks away all of her jewelry when she joins her project. they're trophies from another time. poppy bellefleur is the first person to wear any of it in seventeen years when lyra leaves everything to her.

🖋 it takes a good deal of pestering jacob for her to ultimately be put through the trials; he told her that she wasn't ready and she said well, better to learn that now than later, isn't it? yes, certainly, but see, he doesn't want to deal with that fucking call from john sooner than later.

🖋 absolutely hates sleeping in abandoned houses. she would rather expose herself to the elements; she’s paranoid that there will be owners who return and get the jump on her, that it's a trap, that there will be a group of raiders who have the same idea. it’s irrational, since she’s far more at risk of getting jumped or killed at a campsite ( with bonus cazadors ), but her childhood and the goings-on at her father's inn left her twitchy; it's too close to home, as it were. she'll never be comfortable with it. even in places of hospitality, she’s twitchy. she knows what happens to wanderers sleeping in buildings that don't belong to them. she was slitting their throats and emptying their pockets when she was only a little girl.

🖋 hadrian and evie fitzgerald are the only two semi-permanent residencies she insists on at the tops; if she puts in a word with the chairmen otherwise it’s usually for performers she finds on nights out in freeside ( or, rather, vera or joana will on her behalf; joss is fortunate if she remembers them the following day ).

🖋 she might be the one who secured the strip, but she is absolutely banned from doing any pr ( which she is more than happy to accommodate — she might have a dark messiah complex but she sure as fuck wasn't planning on actually having to run things herself after liberating vegas; she kept benny alive for that. sorry to his more romantic inclinations ). she absolutely refuses to reconcile with the ncr or deal with them directly, "on principle," she claims, which is just as well — they're not incredibly eager to deal with her after the hoover dam incident.
