SAO Spread - AniWave (13th January 2017 Edition) Translations

Very sorry for the wait! ^^;; Actually the next issue has already been out for about a week and I have it with me, but I haven’t gotten around to scanning it yet. Anyway, this is the two-page spread on the Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale movie scheduled for release in February of this year in Japanese cinemas. I didn’t translate the entire page but I did what I could on the bus ride to tuition. Despite it being my second language my Chinese kinda sucks (and this is in Traditional whilst my school teaches Simplified) so excuse my errors!

With the hype for next year's (2017) anime movies, many will most likely flock to cinemas to watch Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale. As we anticipate the release of the film that will bring viewers through a new adventure, this week we have a Q&A section with director Tomohiko-sensei, hope everyone enjoys!

A brief introduction to a new addition to the cast of SAO - 

Yuna / ュナ:

Ordinal Scale's first high-spirited, enthusiastic idol that has gained popularity within the AR world with a beautiful voice to match. In the game, when she appears on stage, amazing results will appear (does not specify exactly what).

The Q&A Segment!

[There are two anime seasons of the franchise out, what kind of installment is Ordinal Scale?] Tomohiko: Production for this movie was already in progress when the second season was airing. In March of 2015, the original creator Kawahara-san gave us the rough outline and we commenced working on the film. The film retains the entire cast of Sword Art Online, but we want to create a feeling that audiences have never experienced over the two seasons. We hope that everyone will enjoy this movie.

[In the movie the characters play Ordinal Scale, which is an AR game, and the popular Pokémon Go game is a similar type of app too.] Tomohiko: Ah - Pokémon Go's positive reception is a bit surprising to me. In the early days of the planning of the film, we had already decided on the nature of the AR world, but with Pokémon Go's immense popularity, it seems as if we're riding their coattails (haha). But I think Pokémon Go only used certain aspects of the virtual world in the game, but AR captures the entire experience. When finalising Ordinal Scale I believe we've reached the point where we want the AR game to be.

[Let's talk about new additions to the cast. Yuna is one of Ordinal Scale's main and most anticipated characters.] Tomohiko: I told the person in charge of character design (abec-sensei) that in my mind Yuna is this sort of 'little devil that is fun' character. She isn't like your typical Japanese girl or idol, instead she's leaning towards an Avril Lavigne feel.
