I really enjoyed it! I think the performances were great, especially Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane. (Who knew Roy Cohn had warmth?!) It still felt very relevant, and less dated than I expected. I was worried the Belize/Louis scene was going to be clunky but it worked.
It does lose a bit in filming. Mainly that there were some sound issues, and a LOT of shadows. Neon doesn’t film well. There were moments where it was zoomed out on the whole stage picture, with a blob of light in one section of the stage, where it felt like I was watching a bootleg.
Now I have to figure out when I’m seeing Part 2! I had a ticket but had to sell it.
