“We Are What We Are” and “I Am What I Am” are the first and seventh songs respectively in the 1983 Broadway musical, La Cage aux Folles. Featuring music and lyrics by Jerry Herman (Mame) the book, by Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots), was based on the 1973 Jean Poiret play of the same name. This show was nominated for nine Tony Awards and won six, including Best Musical. This performance features George Hearn (Sunset Boulevard), who won a Tony Award for his role as Albin. This recording is from the 1984 Tony Award ceremony.

Ain’t Misbehavin’ was nominated for five Tony Awards and won three, including Best Musical. This song was performed by Ken Page, Nell Carter, Armelia McQueen, and Charlayne Woodard. Carter won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress for her performance in this show.
