Hello there! I thought to myself today why not to share some goodie films that I love. I'm not a movie expert but I guess some movies stick with you for a long time and I would like to share some of my favourite ones with you. These movies are quite well-known so no surprises here. There will be spoilers!
1. HEATHERS
Taking drastic turn of events is like the main course in this one. Veronica is quite intelligent but hangs out with a clique of self-absorbed gals. She then falls in love with an outsider called J.D. and well, he is a psycho (but in a cute way?). Well there are “suicides” and murders later on and I can tell you right away there is no teen movie like this.
2. CORALINE
We all love creepy kids movies that will keep an adult up at night. No? The main character Coraline is an imaginative and adventurous gal and she is bored when she moves out of her old house. But she finds a secret small door that opens to the Other World where everything is the same but better. With a difference of everyone having buttons instead of eyes. Weird? Yes. Will I still watch this movie hundreds of times, though? Yes, indeed.
3. TITANIC
I know I know people are more fed up with this movie than with anything other. At least that's what I've heard. But you gotta give this movie another chance. It still is magnificent and I bet that if this movie didn't blow up, hipsters would talk about it to this day. Yes I've said it. Bite me, hipsters for not making it cool! I don't think I have to explain the plot of this one.
4. THE BREAKFAST CLUB
Yes another teen movie, but we all know this one deserves the title “cult movie”. It's just so experimental and the funny part is that the director wrote the script in a short period of time. And they also filmed it in a while as well (compared to other movies). It's not just about high school teens from different cliques becoming friends. I think this also perfectly represents the ridicilousness of the cliques in the first place why labels are a joke and just a tool to segregade people and manipulate them. And anyone that thinks that cliques are not a thing in adult world are wrong.
5. SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK
If you ever wanted to watch a movie that perfectly depicts mental illness this one is just for you. Pat just got out of a mental institution (having Bipolar Disorder) and wants to get back to his wife that he mistreated in the past. But can he really? He refuses to move on and tries to get to her and on his way he meets Tiffany that in my opinion and many others has Bordeline Personality Disorder. She is his gateway to move on but he isn't ready yet. This movie is monumentaly crazy and I love it.
6. THE GAME
I don't think that I'm into thrillers much but this one holds a special place in my heart. An adrenaline rush supply for days and an excellent plot twist. Nicholas starts a real-life game that he got as a gift from his brother. But it takes a different turn when he finds himself in his real life not trusting anyone thinking they are the part of the game. It greatly shows how having it all in materialistic world isn't going to satisfy you forever and how we sometimes need to be reminded of the things that are really important.
7. THE SCHOOL OF ROCK
Having Jack Black as a teacher is always a good idea. Especially if he makes you start a rock band. This hilarious comedy has a genuine spark of originality and shows people what rock'n'roll is really about. Dewey was recently kicked out of his own band and wants to start a new one because he is dedicated to playing rock. While being unemployed he takes the job of a teacher using the name of his friend Ned and well one thing leads to another and he starts a rock band with his students. To add the music in this movie is just the cherry on the top.
8. THE DARK KNIGHT
Philosophical thoughts about society and what's good or bad is what makes this movie a delight and thought-provoking sensation. Batman playing Joker's insane but genius game with no awerness of what he'll do next is the general description. Joker's the perfect villian and Batman is the imperfect hero. But what it takes for a person to become a hero or a villian? That's where Harvey Dent comes in- the adequate candidate for mayor's office with a good heart and head in the right place. But there is no good man in this world that can escape the claws of the Joker (that I lowkey agree with on some level,...just saying).
9. THE LOVELY BONES
Oh man isn't this the perfectly scarring movie for a sensitive little 12 year old. That's when I saw this movie for the first time. And in my twisted head that was what made me attracted to this movie even more. Susie is a teen murdered by a neighbour ( a middle aged man) across the street. She is in between heaven and Earth trying to comunicate with her family and reach out so they know what happened to her. The bond between her and her father is strong and he is the one that finds out who killed her despite of no one believing him. The depiction of how human connection can live on further even after death sounds surreal. Or does it?
10. THE SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS
Dark humor mixed with positive messages and Tim Burton-like aesthetic? Sign me up! I will scream on top of my lungs of how this movie is underrated. The recent death of parents of three children makes them move from one caretaker to another. But there is one that desires their fortune inherited from their dead parents the most- Count Olaf portrayed by great Jim Carrey. The reason why they never have a steady caretaker is because Olaf keeps on murdering each one of them.
So this is it! I hope that you liked it and if someone has some interesting facts about these movies please enlighten me. And if this list made someone watch some of them let me know^^
