Hey so I just saw the other Anon ask about Clock Zero, I know you said you haven't played the game but as someone who has- more than once because I can't help myself- I think the most yan character is Toranosuke. Not sure if you read up on him but he definitely says/does more "traditional" yandere things.
Hey there demon. Kai here to answer your question.
Not going to lie, when you said that Toranosuke says/does more “traditional” yandere things, a red light flashed in my mind. When I see the words, “traditional” and “yandere” together, I get this bad feeling at the pit of my stomach. Usually, when people say things like that, the evidence to prove that point would be “OOOOH! HE’S HOLDING A KNIFE. KNIFE=YANDERE!!!” or “HE’S BLOODY IN THIS ONE CG! HE GOTTA BE A YANDERE!”
And... I was partly right when I read the beginning of the summary. From the beginning till right before the route ending summary, I didn’t get anything that particularly screamed yandere to me. The beginning with their childhood together and Tora fought off the bullies or whatever. Eh, pretty normal to me. He was defending himself from some bullies and the heroine happened to be there. Tora slapping the MC and pushing her on the bed while saying that he’ll destroy his image... First of all: the fuck with the slap bro? That automatically gets a yellow card from us... lucky for him that he doesn’t do it consistently or else he would automatically be kicked from the yandere running. He had at least a reason for why he did this; because the MC kept on comparing 2010 version of him. Fair enough but this scene doesn’t exactly scream “lovesick” because he doesn’t even love the MC at this point in his route. Fancy, sure. But he doesn’t really fall for her till she stayed by his side during his healing scene. Him saving the MC from the bad guys? Still normal to me. Ya girl gets kidnapped, what else are you going to do? Not save her??? Like come on, saving your love interest isn’t something reserved just for yanderes lol.
I never played this game and I doubt I ever will. So I’m probably lacking a lot of context the story would give but I would imagine that at least one of these dozen Clock Zero summary blogs would at least mention one particularly “creepy” scene from Tora in the main story of his route. But... no. Besides that slap and pinning to the bed scene, there wasn’t any other mention. So... I was under the impression that he was the generic bad boy, edgy, semi-domineering with a gentle side type of character.
That was until I got to the endings summary. And oh boy. It’s like the writer’s suddenly remembered that Tora was supposed to be a yandere or something. In theory, these ends are pretty solid for yandere ends. Not going to lie, my monkey brain switched on at the Return Ending. “Hurg hurg, yandere kill. Yandere happy ending, yes. Hurg hurg.” If it was just the endings, I would say Tora is a solid yandere. But going through all that convoluted plot just for a 0 to 100 end seems like a waste of time (no offense if you like the game). And I thought it was just me thinking that the game ended on a 0 to 100 note but all these other blogs all mention how they like Tora through out his route but his ends are rather creepy/ended on a high note.
While yes, he is a yandere, I have to give him a 3/5 on the yandere scale due to just poor writing (from what I seen... is -1) and the fact I never played the game, so another -1 for the benefit of the doubt.
In the end, I still prefer Kaido more. Personal taste aside, Kaido’s main route and ending made sense (more or less) and was consistent with his yandere factor. And Kaido was much easier to connect as an enlighten or redeemed yandere while with Tora you figure that out at the very end.
So... eh. Idk. All I’ve done is read a bunch of summaries from different blogs.
